Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

On Friday, September 29, 2017, at the annual In-Service and Planning Day of the Saskatchewan Association for Community Education (SACE), the Ministry of Education and SACE announced the 2017-18 school year Call for Nominations regarding the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.
Through these scholarships, Government provides an annual maximum of $16,000 to ease the financial burden that some students face during their educational journey. These students are living with vulnerable circumstances.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship assists Grade 11 students with completing their secondary education. A maximum of 20, $500 scholarships, are awarded annually.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship assists Grade 12 students with completing their post-secondary education. A maximum of six, $1000 scholarships, are awarded annually.

SARM 90th Anniversary Student Scholarship in Agriculture Safety and Rural Health

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
  • Be enrolled in grade 12 for the current school year;
  • Be planning on studying at a Saskatchewan post secondary school in the fall following secondary graduation.  Students can also be studying outside of Saskatchewan if the course is not offered in Saskatchewan;
  • Have completed the last two years of high school in Saskatchewan;
  • Have a farming background;
  • Have parents or guardians who own/rent land and pay taxes to a rural municipality; and
  • Live in a rural area.
Applicants must complete an application form and write a one-thousand word essay on the importance of safety and health on their farm or safety and health hazards on their farm.

U of S Registration Updates

Applications open now
Applications for most of uSask's programs for 2018-2019 are now open. Using the new system, students are able to create accounts, which allow them to submit and monitor applications, upload select documents, track when items have been received, and download their decision letters electronically, all from within their profile. Admissions updates
Other changes to the application for admission
In addition to the ability for students to create accounts to submit and monitor their applications, there are a few other changes to the application process:
  • Current students' class schedules/timetables can be entered within the application and are no longer required to be sent by email.
  • The application fee is now required to submit the application. Applicants in Canada should be prepared to submit their application with credit card information. Students living outside Canada have the additional option to pay using the Flywire international payment system.
  • Decision letters will be available for download from students' accounts. Letters will also continue to be mailed to applicants living within Canada and the U.S.
Education admissions updates
Consideration for admission to the four-year, direct-entry Bachelor of Education program is now based solely on admission average. Applicants can be considered for early admission if they apply by December 1 and have an admission average of 75% or higher. The final application deadline is Feb. 15 and the expected target average for competitive ranking-based admission is 70%. Special consideration is available to applicants for whom extenuating or special circumstances might have affected admissibility. Admission to the Bachelor of Education program is available at any of uSask's off-campus sites for students wishing to complete the first year of their program outside of Saskatoon.
 
Animal Bioscience 
Consideration for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience is now based on a competitive ranking. This means that applicants are ranked competitively by admission average following the application deadline and spaces will be offered to the top applicants. Applicants who apply by Dec. 1 and have an admission average of 85% or higher will be considered for early admission. Remaining seats will be allocated following the Feb. 15 deadline; the expected target average for regular admission is 80%.

This is a free event for prospective engineering students to learn more about what an engineering career looks like through hands-on activities, tours of labs and facilities and discussions with current students in various engineering programs.

First Qualified First Admitted Admission Process (FQFA)
Canadian citizens and permanent residents (landed immigrants) are advised to apply to programs before our February 15 priority consideration date for domestic applicants.  Applications received after February 15 (both domestic and international) are considered in order of the FQFA date.

Program Update - Industrial Mechanics
Effective for September 2018, the admission requirements are Grade 12 with one of the following mathematics: Foundations of Math 20 or Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 20 or Pre-Calculus 20.

Articulation Agreement
Graduates from Saskatchewwan Polytechnic's Addictions Counselling diploma program will enter the third year of the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree program at the University of Lethbridge.

Machinists set up and operate tools to cut or grind metals into precision parts or products. They make things such as the die-cast to set the plastic for your cell phone case. They also make the molds to manufacture your car tires.
Come out to Saskatchewan Polytechnic and have a great day finding out more about becoming a machinist. There will be competitions to see who will be the maddest machinist.

WorkSafe Saskatchewan Video Contest

WorkSafe Saskatchewan invites Saskatchewan students in grades 9 to 12 to create a 2-minute video focusing on workplace safety. The contest awards student and school prizes for the top three videos:
  • 1st place - $1,000 (student/team) and $1,500 (school)
  • 2nd place - $750 (student/team) and $1,000 (school)
  • 3rd place – $500 (student/team) and $750 (school)
Students have until March 29, 2018 to submit their videos. Saskatchewan’s first-place winner advances to the national contest. Last year, the provincial winner, Clavet Composite School, received the most votes for their video in the national contest and won $1,000. A Saskatchewan team has won National Fan Favourite for five consecutive years, earning each team an extra $1,000.

Application Deadlines

UBC’s two application deadlines are as follows:
  • First round offers (+ major entrance scholarships): December 1, 2017
  • Final application deadline: January 15, 2018

Undergraduate entrance scholarships
  • The Major Entrance Scholarship program recognizes exceptional students for their academic and non-academic achievements with awards of up to $60,000. Students who apply by December 1 will receive automatic consideration.
  • The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award is designed to improve access to post-secondary education for exceptional students facing significant financial barriers. This award is valued up to $80,000 and requires a separate application. The deadline to apply is December 1. 
Scholarships for Aboriginal Students
A number of Major Entrance Scholarships and Centennial Scholars Entrance Awards are designated specifically for Aboriginal students. Applicants can self-identify as Aboriginal in their application to UBC.

International undergraduate entrance scholarships
UBC also recognizes the achievements of outstanding students from around the world by devoting non-public funds to scholarships and awards for international students. All eligible candidates who apply to UBC by January 15, 2018 will be automatically considered for an award.

Tuition waiver for youth in care
UBC offers a tuition waiver for eligible youth aging out of care. Students can identify as a current or former youth in care in their application to UBC

Housing deadline
The deadline to apply for housing at UBC is May 1, 2018. Please note that it is a separate application this year. You and your students can learn more about the process on the Okanagan and Vancouver housing application websites.

New Degree Option for Lakeland Interior Design Grads

Graduates of Lakeland College’s award-winning interior design technology program can now transfer their credits towards a bachelor of interior design (BID) degree at RCC Institute of Technology.

Lakeland College and RCC officials recently signed a five-year articulation agreement that will allow Lakeland grads to transfer almost all of their credits towards the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited BID program at RCC. Lakeland grads have the option to take the program online or at the RCC campus in Concord, Ont.

North Battleford Try-A-Trade

Try-A-Trade Interactive Career Fair is just around the corner on Oct. 18th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the NationsWEST Field House in North Battleford. This is a unique career fair where students can discover a career in the trades, learn about post-secondary opportunities and many services that trade unions offer, consult with a government funding agency as well as discuss future apprenticeship and employment opportunities with businesses. This is a good learning opportunity for the students.

All proceeds from the concession at the event will go towards the North West Career Development Partnership Try-A-Trade Scholarship for 2018-19. This single $1,000 entrance scholarship is open to all students who enroll in the trades program at North West College and has attended a school that has participated in Try-A-Trade in the past two years. Applications for this scholarship will be accepted for the fall of 2018.

Lakeland College Open House

Oct 20-21, 2017
Lakeland’s annual Open House is on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both the Vermilion and Lloydminster campuses. We have a great lineup of activities including tours of the campus, residence, and specialized program buildings such as our new state-of-the-art Dairy Learning Centre and the Energy Centre. Other activities include hands-on lab demonstrations such as taking water samples in groundwater wells, doing basic welds in the welding lab, or getting a mini manicure from our esthetician students. Open House is a great opportunity to talk with staff and instructors, as well as current Lakeland students. All students who attend will be entered to win an iPad Air. Plus, we waive the $90 application fee when they apply to Lakeland during Open House. You’ll find a list of all the planned sessions and activities at lakelandcollege.ca/open-house.

Scholarships - Lloydminster Society of Petroleum Engineers

The Society of Petroleum Engineers – Lloydminster Section, are making the following awards available to students from a high school in Lloydminster and the surrounding areas. The Lloydminster Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers donates these awards to worthy candidates to recognize graduating high school students:

The scholarships are intended to financially assist students who will be continuing their education in a post-secondary institute and who are majoring in SCIENCE or ENGINEERING with relationship to the petroleum industry. 2017 Scholarships to the International Conference

The A4LE Saskatchewan Chapter is interested in sponsoring a Saskatchewan member of A4LE in attending the A4LE international conference. This sponsorship opportunity is designed for members who have not had the opportunity to attend this conferences before and who desire financial support in their pursuit of the educational opportunities attending would provide. The sponsorship amount will be allocated on a yearly basis, being made available for Saskatchewan chapter A4LE members.

LearningScapes 2017 – Atlanta, GA October 25-30th, 2017. The amount of this sponsorship is the cost of registration, conference hotels (up to 5 nights); return flights, hotel transfers, and a meal allowance total value of up to $3500.

Candidates must be closely related to a current member of a Saskatchewan Eastern Star Chapter (dues paying or life). Valid relationships include spouse, child, grandchild, sibling, niece or nephew (all biological, adopted or step), or be a member themselves. Applicants must be registered for a full academic load for a full academic year.

This award is offered annually to a Saskatchewan resident who is or will be attending a University or Technical Institute in Saskatchewan. Valid relationships include spouse, child, grandchild, sibling, niece or nephew (all biological, adopted or step), or be a member themselves. If there is no OES connection then a Masonic relationship is required. Preference will be given to graduates who are closely related to a current member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Health Science Career Camp at U of Alberta

The University of Alberta is teaming up with Alberta Health Services, NAIT, and CAREERS: The Next Generation to offer a Health Sciences Career Camp from August 14-18, 2017.

The camp is open to students in grades 10 to 12 in the Edmonton Area. The aim of the program is to provide students an opportunity to explore different careers and education programs in the health sciences field.

Students can learn more and register for the camp online. The deadline to register is July 28, 2017.

U of Alberta Registration Workshops and Resources

First year course registration opened on April 3. There is one more online Reg 101 Workshop scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Students will have an opportunity to learn how to navigate the Bear Tracks system for the purpose of course registration, build a first-year schedule, and ask UAlberta advisors questions. Students must have accepted their admission offer in order to access course schedule information.

MC College Scholarship

MC College is an accredited institution across Western Canada with 6 campuses in total offering Hairstyling and Esthetics programs.  The purpose of their scholarship is to encourage creative young individuals interested in pursuing a career in the Salon or Spa Industry.
