TD Scholarships for Community Leadership


Deadline: December 7
A total of up to 20 TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school or CEGEP who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community.

Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:
·         Up to $10,000 for tuition per year
·         $7,500 a year for living expenses
In addition, these scholarships include:

·         An offer of paid summer employment
·         Mentorship opportunities
·         Annual gatherings and networking opportunities and more

Lakeland College Open House

Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27
Open House 2012 is consists of 2 full days on both Lloydminster and Vermilion campuses. It runs Friday Oct. 26 from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday Oct. 27 from 9 am to 3 pm. 

This includes a  Career Fair in Vermilion on Friday.

This is an opportunity to tour, sit in on a class, talk to current students, meet faculty, try-a-trade and do a lab.

If you plan on attending Lakeland in 2013-14, you should take a tour. You'll be eligible to win a $1,000 tuition credit.

Every fall, prospective students, parents, counsellors, teachers and others are invited to spend time on campus to experience the U of S in full swing. Through interactive information sessions, tours and other activities, attendees can learn more about the wide variety of programs and services available at the U of S.

SIAST Machining Madness Event

When: Saturday, November 17, 2012

When you stop and think about it, there are many things that machinists make. Did you know that a machinist manufactured the molds that made your car tires? Take a look at your cell phone. A machinist formed the die-cast that set the plastic for that cell phone. Machinists are everywhere and they’re in high demand.

High School students are invited to come out and explore SIAST’s Machine Shop program at Wascana Campus. They’ll learn about the various types of equipment used in the shop while producing a project. Representatives from industry will be on hand throughout the day and program information will be provided to all participants. Everyone is welcome!

Application Deadlines for SIAST

Depending on the program applied for, there are 3 possible application deadlines and processes for SIAST programs offered at Kelsey, Wascana, Woodlands and Palliser campuses:

a)    First Qualified First Admitted (for most SIAST programs)Current high school students who are enrolled in the courses that will qualify them for admission to the program of their choice may apply on or after September 1 each year for FQFA programs. It is to their advantage to apply early for the best chance of being admitted.

b) High Demand Programs
Applicants to high-demand programs may only apply during the designated application period - October 1, 2012, to February 15, 2013. SIAST programs currently designated as high demand are:
Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology
Dental Hygiene
Medical Laboratory Assistant (effective for 2013 intake)
Medical Laboratory Technology
Medical Radiologic Technology
Power Engineering Technology
Practical Nursing

c) Competitive Admission Program
The Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, delivered in partnership with the University of Regina, uses a competitive admission process. Applications are ranked according to specific program requirements. Refer to the program web page for details.

"CSI" (Come, See, Investigate) sessions are to be held at the four Kelsey Campuses as follows:

University of Saskatchewan Greystone Scholars

Nominations for the Greystone Scholars Recognition Program are no longer required! Instead, students who apply for admission, submit the application fee, and send in a statement of Grade 11 marks and a list of the semestered and non-semestered classes in which they're registered during your Grade 12 year by email, mail, or fax. For students planning to attend the U of S in the 2013-2014 academic year, the online application form will be available at explore.usask.ca/admission after September 21st and documents can also be submitted after that date.

The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation grants Loran Awards to talented young Canadians on the basis of character, service and leadership potential. A Loran Award includes four years of funding for undergraduate studies and a comprehensive enrichment program.

Students that best reflect the criteria of character, leadership and community service are considered to be strong candidates. Activities both within the school and out in the community are weighed equally. An 85% average is the minimum academic threshold for consideration.

U of R Music Open House and Audition Dates

Thursday, November 15, 2012 and Wednesday, February 13, 2013 - Open Houses at University of Regina Department of Music will be held. For further information, including a registration link, click here.

Auditions and music theory entrance exams for Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education programs will be held on November 15, February 13, March 2, April 10 and May 16.  For further information, consult the Music Department website here.

Forum for Young Canadians 2012-13

Forum for Young Canadians is a civic education program for students aged 15-19 years old. It brings students to Ottawa for a week of intensive academic adventure regarding national politics and public affairs.

Participants spend time with 100 other young leaders from coast to coast. Their classroom is Parliament Hill and their teachers are Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, senior public servants, members of the national media and business leaders.
