Recreation and Community Development - Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Kelsey Campus

U of S - New early admission deadline for the Colleges of Engineering, Kinesiology and Edwards School of Business

This year, to help us get offers out earlier to your high-achieving students, we are pleased to offer an early admission deadline of December 1 for our competitive ranking-based colleges.

To be considered, students should submit their:
  • online application for admission and application fee
  • transcript from the Ministry of Education
  • Grade 12 timetable (which should show that the student is registered in college-specific subjects required for admission and should point out any non-semestered subjects)
  • proof of English language proficiency
Eligible applicants with an admission average of 90%+ will be offered conditional admission and will not need to wait for the competitive ranking to take place in February.

The final application deadline for these colleges remains February 15, with a document deadline of March 1. Remaining applicants will be ranked competitively and spaces will be offered from the top down according to admission average.

Univerisity of Saskatchewan Best and Brightest Scholarships - NEW

This year, the university's highest-valued, renewable scholarships will be offered earlier than ever to your high-achieving, best and brightest students.  The application for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships is due December 15. To be eligible to apply, students must apply for admission and submit all transcripts and other documents by December 1.

These scholarships include:
  • George and Marsha Ivany President's First and Best Scholarships
  • Chancellors' Scholarships
  • U of S Entrance Scholarships
  • Edwards Undergraduate Scholarships
  • College of Agriculture and Bioresources Renewable Entrance Scholarships
The application deadline for Competitive Entrance Awards, the other scholarships, awards and bursaries for which all entering students are encouraged to apply, is March 1.

The applications for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships and Competitive Entrance Awards open October 3.

Forum for Young Canadians

The Forum for Young Canadians presents a fun and valuable opportunity to meet other young Canadians like you during a week-long behind-the-scenes trip in the world of federal politics at Parliament Hill. You’ll learn how to share, collaborate and turn your ideas into community action. You’ll meet Members of Parliament, Senators and other leading figures in government and the public service.
Any 15 to 19 year-old Canadian students who are interested in politics and leaders in their communities are candidates for the Forum for Young Canadians.The week-long program includes a maximum of 120 students per session. SARM 90th Anniversary Student Scholarship

Deadline: February 6, 2015

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
  • Be enrolled in grade 12 for the current school year;
  • Be planning on studying at a Saskatchewan post secondary school in the fall following secondary graduation.  Students can also be studying outside of Saskatchewan if the course is not offered in Saskatchewan;
  • Have completed the last two years of high school in Saskatchewan;
  • Have a farming background;
  • Have parents or guardians who own/rent land and pay taxes to a rural municipality; and
  • Live in a rural area.
Applicants must complete an application form and write a one-thousand word essay on the importance of safety and health on their farm or safety and health hazards on their farm.

Indspire Awards: Building Brighter Futures

Indspire has announced the launch of its $20 million Building Brighter Futures Campaign in support of bursaries and scholarships for Indigenous students across Canada. Through the campaign, donations to Indspire from corporate, provincial, and private partners will be matched up to $10 million through a commitment from the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2013.

Students can apply for financial awards from one of several different funding streams, depending on their area of study.

Business and Beyond Competition

SIAST's School of Business is excited to bring back the second annual Business and Beyond competition.
The competition is open to high schools students in grade 10 to 12. Gather a team of four and prepare to have a day filled with fun. Rotate your way through the business specialties and compete in mini challenges in each. The top four teams will compete in a final competition in the Panther’s Pen. The winners will receive tuition credits to a SIAST Business program.

Machining Madness!

Date: November 14, 2014
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Rm A164 - Machine Shop Room, SIAST Wascana Campus, 4500 Wascana Parkway, Regina, SK
Come out to SIAST and find out more about becoming a machinist. There will be competitions to see who will be the "maddest machinist."
Machinists set up and operate tools to cut or grind metals into precision parts or products. They make things such as the die-cast to set the plastic for your cell phone case. They also make the molds to manufacture your car tires.

Sears DX High School Design Competition

Loran Scholars Program

The Loran Scholars Program offers 30 scholarships valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including mentorship and a summer program, as well as 40 finalist awards ($3,000) and 40 provincial awards ($2,000).

Candidates must:
  • Be in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school or CEGEP. (In Québec, students planning to attend university outside of Québec after only one year of CEGEP are also eligible to apply in their first year of CEGEP). Exceptions will be considered for those who have undertaken a gap year for academic pursuits or community service-based activities.
  • Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
Successful candidates are chosen on the basis of character, service and leadership.

Re/Max Western Canada Quest for Excellence Bursary 2015

The Quest for Excellence Program is a bursary program for grade 12 students in Western Canada.  It was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives.

16 bursaries of $1,000 each to qualifying Grade 12 students.  In addition, the 16 bursary winners will be entered into a draw and one lucky recipient will receive a RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon ride for two. Bursary winners will be notified and all winners will be posted in April 2015.

The Quest for Excellence is open to all Grade 12 students attending high school from September, 2014 - March, 2015. Grade 12 students may not have participated in graduation commencement ceremonies in the past. Applicants must be a resident of one of the following provinces/territories.

    British Columbia
    Alberta
    Saskatchewan
    Manitoba
    Yukon Territory

Students are to convey the contributions they have made to their communities in a short online essay, maximum 1,250 words. Key qualities students should demonstrate are leadership, motivation and communication skills.  Other attributes may include volunteering, participation in charitable events or fundraising, and contributions that enrich the lives of others and their communities.

21st Skills Canada National Competition in Saskatoon!

May 27-30 - Prairieland Park, Saskatoon

Skills Canada  hosts annual Olympic-style skills competitions that provide a forum for secondary, post-secondary and apprentice students to compete in over 30 trade and technology competition areas.

The University of Alberta is hosting this annual event for "designers, creators, inventors, thinkers and dreamers" who would like to find out more about engineering programs there.

The day includes tours, displays, students projects, and information sessions. There are activities for all ages, right down to the 6-12 year olds.
