Bursaries - Odd Fellows and Rebekahs

March 15 - is the application deadline for the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Bursary program. Six bursaries in the amount of 1000 each will be awarded for students who are planning to attend post-secondary school. Students applying do ot have to have a connection with the Odd Fellows or Rebekahs but must show definite promise and a need for financial assistance. The bursary is to be used in the year awarded.

Ask your guidance counsellor for application forms and further information.

United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth

January 12 Application Deadline - The purpose of the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth is for youth to study and observe the United Nations in action. The two-week, all expense paid tour involves a week in New York as well as time in Washington, Philadelphie and Ottawa. Applicants must be 16 or 17 years old with a minimum of one year of high school remaining.

Mount Royal College - Auditions

Mount Royal College offers a 2 year music diploma in both Jazz and Classical streams. Auditions are on March 6 and April 17 for jass and on March 26 and 27 for classical streams. Students must officially apply to Mount Royal College before being assigned an audition time.

Mount Royal also offers a two year Theatre Arts program of intensive, hands-on, practical training in both Performance and Technical Production. Acceptance is based on an interview or audition.

Applications for fall intake start on December 1.

Agriventure Programs

Students who are considering a "gap year" before starting post-secondary studies may benefit from this international agricultural exchange program. Agriventure gives young people, aged 18 - 30 the opportunity to travel the world and combine this with working in agriculture or horticulture. The program includes flights, visa or work permit, insurance, an information package, an allowance work placement, an orientation seminar and a contact person in the host country. Placements are available in UK, Japan, New Zealand, Australia or Europe. If a student wants to travel around the world, they can do a two country porgramme for 14 months.

Excellence Awards

April 20 is the deadline for student submissions to the YBEX program. Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to submit business plans, reports, or waste-reduction plans. This year there is a first-in-advantage grant of $50 for the first two scools to submit entries. YBEX entry guides are available at the Community Futures Office in North Battleford or by download from www.northwestcf.com

Earth Day Scholarship

January 31, 2009 - is the application deadline for the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program. This is an opportunity for graduating high school students to earn a $5 000 entrance scholarship toward their post-secondary education, regardless of their chosen field of study.
