Professional Firefighting Course at Parkland College (Yorkton)

Parkland College's Protection and Emergency Services Training, in partnership with Fire Etc. offers industry training that meets the National Fire Protection Association 1001 - Professional Firefighting Qualifications.

This program is set up as a full-time program but does offer some flexibility for applicants. Students will travel to Vermilion to participate in live fire training for one week during the program. Part-time students may choose to complete specific individual modules.

Top 20 Under 20

Deadline January 22 - The Top 20 Under 20 National Award and Mentoring Program awards youth under the age of twenty who have demonstrated significant levels of innovation, leadership and achievement in all disciplines and fields (business, philanthropy, charitable works, government, entrepreneurship, etc).

Along with receiving an award, each recipient will be matched with current community leaders in a mentorship relationship for a full year. A 5 day Leadership Summit and monthly conference calls with industry leaders are other special features of this program.

University of Waterloo -National Scholarships - Math

February 9 - The University of Waterloo offers 13 National Scholarships to exceptional students entering their first year in the Faculty of Mathematics.

These include:

CIBC National Scholarship - $25 000 over four years
Waterloo Mathematics Foundation National Scholarships - $18 000 over four years
Rene Descartes National Scholarships - either $18 000 or $14 000 over four years

University of Manitoba, Housing and Student Life, has now completed a conversion to a fully online residence application process. Using this new system, students will be able to search for compatible roommates and send messages to potential matches, view floor plans of residence buildings, select their own rooms during and assigned time slot, view their residence account online and pay application fees and down payments online using a credit card.

Certificate in French as a Second Language - U of R

The Certificate in French as a Second Language program usually interests students who have finished the grade 12 core French program and who wish to pursue university studies in education, journalism, or another field in which French is an asset. This intensive program, conducted over two consecutive semesters, allows participants to strengthen their French-language skills, both oral and written, to attain a functional level of bilingualism.

Music Auditions- MacEwan Centre for the Arts and Communications

MacEwan Centre for the Arts and Communication in Edmonton will be holding auditions for drums, guitar, bass, piano vocal and wind instruments on March 13, April 10 and June 19, 2010.

SIAST High Demand Programs

February 15 Deadline: A small number of SIAST programs have been designated as high-demand. A high-demand program is generally one that consistently has 2.5 times more applicants than spaces available at each SIAST location at which it is offered.

High-demand programs have admission requirements plus additional selection criteria. For these programs, you must apply each academic year between October 1 and February 15.

A review is conducted each fall to determine which programs will be designated high-demand for the following academic year. Currently the list of high-demand courses includes:

Applied Photography

Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology

Cytotechnology

Dental Hygiene

Medical Laboratory Technology

Medical Radiologic Technology

Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan Deadline

January 15 - Is the deadline to apply to the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan (NEPS). Click the title link to access an application form and guidebook.

August 15 - 2008 and forward graduates of the SIAST Licensed Practical Nursing diploma program are invited to apply to the LPN Briding option. Applications are accepted between June 15 to August 15, 2009 for the January 2010 intake. For details please contact SIAST Registration at 1-866-467-4278. University of Saskatchewan Entrance Awards

February 15 - To be eligible for competitive entrance awards, grade 12 students must complete both an application for admission to the University of Saskatchewan, as well as an application for Competitive Entrance awards. Both of these applications are available online and can be found by clicking on the title link above. In order to complete these online forms, students will have to create separate log-ins.

May 1 - Students with an average of 85% or better must apply to the U of S by this time in order to receive a guaranteed entrance scholarship. Check here for more information.

U of S - Edwards School of Business Scholarships

The Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan, offers over $260 000 in scholarships to high school students entering the B. Comm program.
