University of Saskatchewan Learning Communities

This fall the University of Saskatchewan is looking forward to welcoming first-year students into a new community of learners. Students entering the Colleges of Arts and Science, Agriculture and Bioresources, Kinesiology, Engineering, and St. Thomas More, have the opportunity to join a Learning Community (LC) in the first term (September – December) of their first year.

A Learning Community is a small group of first-year students who sign up for a common set of courses linked by a weekly LC Hour. LC Hours are led by successful upper-year university students who are passionate about making connections between their studies and their world, and who lead by example as expert learners.

One of the biggest challenges faced by our team of LC coordinators is effectively communicating the timeline for LC sign-up to grade 12 students who are in the thick of graduation and examinations. To join an LC, we encourage students to sign up by June 22rd at noon (i.e. prior to the first day of first-year registration). This way students who sign up for an LC will be registered into the courses associated with their LC, making the registration process that much easier.

To explore options and sign-up for a 2012/2013 LC, please visit our website (students must click on the big red button to sign-up).

For LC information, news, and events, we encourage you and your students to:

- Subscribe to the LC Newsletter,

- Join us on Facebook,

- Follow us on Twitter, and
