Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Scholarships

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) has a scholarship program for undergraduate students. 

Each spring SPG awards five undergraduate scholarships to first-year students enrolled in the 

fall in a Saskatchewan-based post-secondary agriculture program. To be eligible for one of 

these scholarships the student or the student’s parent(s) must be an active pulse producer in 

Saskatchewan (i.e. he/she has sold a Saskatchewan-grown pulse crop in the last two crop 

years).

The 2018 undergraduate scholarship program is now accepting applications. For details on

Summer program: Future Global Leaders

The University of British Columbia offers high-school students aged 15 to 18 the opportunity to experience university life on our Vancouver campus in a two-week pre-university program called Future Global Leaders. There are three streams to choose from: Academic Courses, English Language Courses, and Pre-Varsity Sport.

The registration deadline for students who want to live on campus is April 30. The registration deadline for students who want to commute to campus is June 15.

Great Plains College News

Great Plains College is offering a Carpentry and Production Line Welding program out of our Rosetown Campus starting September 2018.

This dual-certificate program covers introductory skills in carpentry, production line welding, skills and safety training, and a host of other construction skills from electrical and plumbing to energy efficient construction; all of which will be brought together with a unique tiny home capstone project. SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence

The SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence celebrate outstanding achievement in our young people. The Wicihitowin Foundation established the awards in 1997 with the support of the public, government, and private sector.

The SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence recognize youth achievement in 10 categories.Please note: Individual nominations only accepted. No group nominations.

Outstanding achievement
This award recognizes a youth (one male and one female) who:

• Lead a balanced lifestyle based on a foundation of strong cultural and spiritual values
• Show exceptional academic success
• Remain physically active
• Demonstrate leadership
• Inspire, support, and respect others with honour and dignity, education, or career goals

Leadership

This award honours a youth who:

• Inspires and motivates others through actions and solutions

This award honours a youth who:

• Maintains a grade average of 80 percent or higher

• Generously gives their time and energy promoting the well being of others

This award recognizes a youth who:

• Promotes Indigenous values and language in school and the community
• Champions all Indigenous traditional dance, song, and storytelling
• Achieves academic success
• Pursues education and career goal

Sports and recreation

This award recognizes a youth (one male and one female) who:

• Demonstrates significant achievement in competitive, organized sport
• Achieves academic success
• Pursues education and career goals
• Initiates and advances community activities that promote healthy lifestyle

Fine and performing arts

This award honours a youth who:

• Represents Indigenous people through the arts
• Achieves academic success
• Pursues education and career goal

Technology and science

This award honours a youth who:

• Pursues clear post-secondary education goals leading to a career
• Excels in the sciences and/or technologies
• Shows interest in applied science, health, industry, and/or technology

Spirit

This award recognizes a youth who:

• Demonstrates character and an ability to overcome adversity
• Shows resiliency and a healing journey through cultural and spiritual values
• Shares knowledge with others for the betterment of the community 
• Pursues education and career goals

Innovation
This award recognizes a youth who:

• Exemplifies the spirit of innovation
• Has made positive changes in their school or community through innovative thinking and approaches
• Has played a leadership role in introducing new ways of solving school or community issues or problems
• Will be entering the first year of a Saskatchewan Polytechnic program in the upcoming academic year

WHO CAN YOU NOMINATE?

You can nominate any youth if they are:

• Is of First Nations, Metis, or Inuit ancestry
• Between 14 and 18 years of age by May 25, 2018
• A resident of Saskatchewan and a registered student
• Able to demonstrate outstanding commitment and/or ability in one of the 10 award categories
• No group nominations will be accepted
• Mandatory attendance is required if nominated

Access Communications Scholarship

Deadline: April 20, 2018

Last year, Access Communications launched their refreshed Scholarship Program, which grants scholarships of $1,000 to 20 Saskatchewan high school graduates each and every year. Not only do recipients have strong marks, they show a genuine passion for building their communities. Since launching the program, they've awarded more than $295,000.

Agriculture Student Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2018

Saskatchewan Grade 12 students and recent high school graduates (within the last two years) have the chance to win a grand prize scholarship valued at $4,000 or one of three runner-up scholarships of $2,000 when they submit a three-minute video or 1,000-word essay detailing their food story. This year’s scholarship theme, “Our Food Has a Story,” encourages youth to have conversations with others about the relationship between agriculture and the food they eat.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be planning to take an agriculture-related post-secondary education program beginning in the fall of 2018. This scholarship program has been designed to identify young people who thinkAG and plan to pursue an exciting career in the industry.

Deadline to apply is March 1, 2018.
