Qualified applicants to the Business, Environmental Sciences, University Transfer, and Educational Assistant programs are eligible to apply for these $1500, $2500 and $3500 awards, based on their grade 11 marks.

Les Donnelly Scholarship

Deadline: May 31st

The Les Donnelly Scholarship is awarded annually up to a maximum of $2000. It is funded by the Saskatchewan Safety Council's Memorial Trust Fund which was established in the 1970's to help fund safety education and public awareness programs and events.

The recipient must be a Saskatchewan resident who is enrolled in a college or university level safety related program.

CMA Annual Scholarship

Deadline: July 30, 2010

The Society of Management Accountant of Saskatchewan is sponsoring one high school scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 for a graduating high school student who is entering the accounting program at the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan or SIAST. The scholarship will be paid towards tuition and the student will have CMA Associate Membership status while enrolled in the program. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the highest GPA in grade 12.

To apply for this scholarship, the applicant will need to send a letter of application to the CMA office and attach an original high school transcript, along with a 250 word essay explaining why he/she has chosen to pursue a career in accounting.

Nels, Anna, and Evelyn Dahl Nursing Education Fund Award

The fund was established to provide financial support for an Aboriginal student from Saskatchewan pursuing post-secondary studies in Nursing. For the purpose of this award, Aboriginal is understood to include status Indians, non-status Indians, as well as Métis.

This Fund provides one annual award (the amount will vary annually based on endowment investment returns, etc.) to be used to assist the successful applicant in receiving education and training at a not-for-profit post-secondary institution of his or her choice. The award is made on the basis of these criteria:

1.Candidates shall be Saskatchewan residents of Aboriginal ancestry, either status or non-status Indian, or Métis.
2.Applicants should have an academic average of at least 70%, or be mature students with a commitment to succeed.
3.The scholarship recipient will forfeit the award should s/he be unable to provide a written confirmation of enrolment from the post-secondary institution s/he plans to attend by December 15th in the year of the award. In this case, the runner-up shall be awarded the scholarship.
4.While the Selection Committee shall use the above criteria to determine who is eligible for the award, the decision is at the committee’s discretion.

Encounters with Canada

Encounters with Canada is our country’s largest and foremost youth forum! Every week of the school year, 120 to 138 teens from across Canada (ages 14 to 17) come to Ottawa. Here they discover their country through each other, learn about Canadian institutions, meet famous and accomplished Canadians, explore exciting career options, develop their civic leadership skills and live an extraordinary bilingual experience. Over 84,000 youth have lived the EWC experience, to date!

CRA Independent Video Producer Award

Deadline: May 30 - The Canada Revenue Agency is launching the second edition of "The Underground Economy: Not Your Problem?" contest on YouTube. They are inviting Canadians to create short videos concerning the risks and social impacts of participating in the underground economy.

Winners will be awarded a weekend in Ottawa where they will attend an exclusive reception and screening.

Monsanto Canada Opportunities Scholarship

Deadline May 14

The Monsanto Canada Opportunity Scholarship is available to Canadian high school students from family farms who are enrolled in their final year of high school as of May 14, 2010 and eligible to graduate from high school in 2010. Eligible students must be planning to enroll at a Canadian post-secondary institution (degree or diploma) in a first-year agriculture program.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship valued at $1500.00, based on demonstrated academic standards and leadership in the community.

Physics Competitions - U of S

1. The Canadian Association of Physicists is sponsoring the annual physics prize competition on Monday, April 12, 2010. This involves writing an exam, common to all provinces in Canada. There are prizes awarded within each province and in addition to national prizes. Interested students should submit their requests to participate on or before March 24.

2. The Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at the U of S is sponsoring a province wide High School Physics Competition on Wednesday, May 5, 2010.Interested students should submit their requests to participate on or before April 19.

Hazel Asmussen Fund Grant

Deadline: April 15

The Hazel Asmussen Fund was established to provide annual grants to post-secondary students in the fine arts. Grade 12 students who are attending such a program in the fall can apply for this award. This year's grant is $400.00. Application forms are available from your school counsellor or administrator.

Great Plains College (Swift Current) Athletic Programs

In 2009-10 the Great Plains College SunDogs will participate in their fourth season of competition in the Prairie Athletics Conference. The SunDogs compete in the following sports:

On March 1, The Canadian Association of Diploma in Agriculture Programs launched a contest to inform teens of the opportunities for careers in agriculture. The contest is designed to engage students in an interactive and dynamic conversation about the impact those involved in agriculture have on things we as individuals value most: the food that nourishes us and the the environment that sustains our planet.

Students can win a variety of prizes, just for participating; The high school with the greatest participation receives a $2500 grant to create a sustainable or green initiative within their school or community.

SIAST Program Changes

SIAST is initiating a new program, the Law Enforcement applied certificate. This program will prepare individuals for employment in policing at the federal, provincial or municipal level as well as with various other law enforcement agencies. It is anticipated that this applied certificate level training will be accessed by a cultural crosssection of the population including Aboriginal people and new immigrants. The program will be transferable into the Correctional Studies diploma program

The Power Engineering Technology and Practical Nursing Diploma programs have now been designated as high demand programs, effective July 1, 2010. Applications to these programs have now been closed until October, 2010.

As of July 1, 2010, the Cytotechnology Diploma program will NOT be a high demand program any longer. Applications will be accepted on a first qualified, first admitted basis as of then.
