North Battleford Try-A-Trade

Try-A-Trade Interactive Career Fair is just around the corner on Oct. 18th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the NationsWEST Field House in North Battleford. This is a unique career fair where students can discover a career in the trades, learn about post-secondary opportunities and many services that trade unions offer, consult with a government funding agency as well as discuss future apprenticeship and employment opportunities with businesses. This is a good learning opportunity for the students.

All proceeds from the concession at the event will go towards the North West Career Development Partnership Try-A-Trade Scholarship for 2018-19. This single $1,000 entrance scholarship is open to all students who enroll in the trades program at North West College and has attended a school that has participated in Try-A-Trade in the past two years. Applications for this scholarship will be accepted for the fall of 2018.

Lakeland College Open House

Oct 20-21, 2017
Lakeland’s annual Open House is on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both the Vermilion and Lloydminster campuses. We have a great lineup of activities including tours of the campus, residence, and specialized program buildings such as our new state-of-the-art Dairy Learning Centre and the Energy Centre. Other activities include hands-on lab demonstrations such as taking water samples in groundwater wells, doing basic welds in the welding lab, or getting a mini manicure from our esthetician students. Open House is a great opportunity to talk with staff and instructors, as well as current Lakeland students. All students who attend will be entered to win an iPad Air. Plus, we waive the $90 application fee when they apply to Lakeland during Open House. You’ll find a list of all the planned sessions and activities at lakelandcollege.ca/open-house.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers – Lloydminster Section, are making the following awards available to students from a high school in Lloydminster and the surrounding areas. The Lloydminster Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers donates these awards to worthy candidates to recognize graduating high school students:

The scholarships are intended to financially assist students who will be continuing their education in a post-secondary institute and who are majoring in SCIENCE or ENGINEERING with relationship to the petroleum industry. 2017 Scholarships to the International Conference

The A4LE Saskatchewan Chapter is interested in sponsoring a Saskatchewan member of A4LE in attending the A4LE international conference. This sponsorship opportunity is designed for members who have not had the opportunity to attend this conferences before and who desire financial support in their pursuit of the educational opportunities attending would provide. The sponsorship amount will be allocated on a yearly basis, being made available for Saskatchewan chapter A4LE members.

LearningScapes 2017 – Atlanta, GA October 25-30th, 2017. The amount of this sponsorship is the cost of registration, conference hotels (up to 5 nights); return flights, hotel transfers, and a meal allowance total value of up to $3500.

Applicants must be registered for a full academic load for a full academic year.

Health Science Career Camp at U of Alberta

The University of Alberta is teaming up with Alberta Health Services, NAIT, and CAREERS: The Next Generation to offer a Health Sciences Career Camp from August 14-18, 2017.

The camp is open to students in grades 10 to 12 in the Edmonton Area. The aim of the program is to provide students an opportunity to explore different careers and education programs in the health sciences field.

Students can learn more and register for the camp online. The deadline to register is July 28, 2017.

U of Alberta Registration Workshops and Resources

First year course registration opened on April 3. There is one more online Reg 101 Workshop scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Students will have an opportunity to learn how to navigate the Bear Tracks system for the purpose of course registration, build a first-year schedule, and ask UAlberta advisors questions. Students must have accepted their admission offer in order to access course schedule information.

In addition to these workshops, there are have many online resources, including faculty tip sheets, helpful videos and FAQs, available to students. To access these, and to register for a session, visit uab.ca/reg101.

MC College Scholarship

MC College is an accredited institution across Western Canada with 6 campuses in total offering Hairstyling and Esthetics programs.  The purpose of their scholarship is to encourage creative young individuals interested in pursuing a career in the Salon or Spa Industry.

Agricultural Sciences:
§  A brand new Dairy barn is currently being built for our Animal Science Technology (Dairy) Students.
§  The current Sheep and Beef Centre will be turned into a 24/7 Vet clinic for our Animal Health Technology students.
Environmental Sciences:
§  New clubs, mentor, and leadership opportunities for our students on campus.
§  International field trips including Peru, Thailand and Sri-lanka.
Energy and Petroleum
§  NEW: Approved 2nd class daytime program beginning September 2017.
Health & Wellness
§  NEW: Full time hairstyling (1400 hours) program located on the Lloydminster Campus in newly constructed salon. Program will begin in September 2017 and will run until June 2018.
Business
§  NEW: Administrative Professional certificate program, full time 1 year certificate program offered on the Lloydminster campus starting September 2017.
University Transfer

Monsanto Fund Scholarship

Deadline: June 15, 2017

The Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program is available to Canadian high school students who are enrolled in their final year of high school as of May 29, 2017 and eligible to graduate from high school in 2017. Those eligible for a scholarship must be planning to enroll at a Canadian post‑secondary institution (degree or diploma) in a first-year agriculture, food science or culinary program.

If you have applied for entry into a college or university, but have not yet been accepted, you can still apply for a Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship. However, if you are awarded a scholarship, you must provide an acceptance letter from your educational institution.

Successful applicants will each be awarded a scholarship valued at $1,500, based on demonstrated academic standards and leadership in the community.

2017 Learning Grant

On behalf of Saskatchewan Credit Unions, CRI Canada is pleased to introduce the CRI Canada Learning Grant Program which will award 2 Learning Grants in the amounts of $1000 to eligible students for full-time study at a qualifying Canadian college or university in 2017.
Any student who is a member of a Saskatchewan Credit Union is eligible to apply for a Learning Grant provided they have received a valid high school diploma or will be eligible to receive a diploma during the year of application. Learning Grants are also open to first year post secondary students!
In order to be considered for a Learning Grant, applications must be received by April 29, 2017. Candidates may be asked to supply information on their ability to finance their education.
All Learning Grant applications must be accompanied by:An official transcript of final results of all high school credit courses to date (and post secondary results if applicable) 
  • One letter of reference from school principal, teacher, or professor/instructor 
  • Put your thoughts to paper: An essay of 500 words or less OR put your thoughts to video: Send us a three to five minute video. Be sure to describe your achievements including academic, artistic and athletic; community involvement, leadership, and education goals

Eligibility
A graduating student from within the Living Sky School Division who is working at his/her potential. and plans to advance his/her education at a recognized post-secondary institution.  The student must possess and exhibit the qualities of a good citizen both within and outside of the school.  This should be a student who does not usually receive public recognition.  The student must meet the admission requirements of their post-secondary program, but do not necessarily have to be an Honour Roll student.  Students must submit a portfolio that provides evidence of citizenship, extra-curricular, and volunteer activities to verify their experiences.  The candidate must provide proof of successful attendance in Semester 2 courses of their chosen program before the scholarship will be awarded.

Saskatchewan Pulse Grower's Scholarship

Eligibility 
 Student or student’s parent(s) must be registered Saskatchewan pulse growers (i.e. they have sold Saskatchewan-grown pulses in the last two years) 
 Student must not be an immediate family member of current SPG staff or Directors 
 Student must have a minimum average of 70% on five subject high school average 
 Student must be accepted as a full-time student this fall in a Saskatchewan-based, post-secondary program that is associated with the pulse industry or agriculture (example: agriculture, natural sciences, engineering, nutrition) 
Selection Criteria • Student must have an interest in pursuing a career related to agriculture.

Business Case Prep Workshop

Saturday, April 8, 9:30 am-2 pm
On Saturday, April 8, the Edwards School of Business is hosting a workshop for Grade 11 and 12 high school students to learn about business cases and how to develop a case for presentation.
Participants will learn about personal finance and entrepreneurship from Edwards faculty. Current Edwards students will also demonstrate what a case presentation looks like, help participants work through deconstructing a case and then help them prepare their own presentation for a mock case competition.
Counsellors and teachers are welcome to attend and may be interested in learning more about business education and incorporating cases into the classroom.
Lunch will be provided and there will be prizes and giveaways for participants.

Skills Work! Young Women's Conference

Important Deadline UR Guarantee Program

The Priority Deadline and Entrance Scholarship deadline are fast approaching on March 15, 2017.

Remind your students to apply by MARCH 15 to qualify for Entrance Awards and to be entered to WIN FREE TUITION FOR A YEAR!

What is the UR Guarantee Program?
This program guarantees students that they will find career related work within six months of graduation. If not, the U of R will pay for an entire year of tuition (10 classes)! Students return and take courses or even a certificate to supplement the education that they already have. Free tuition is great but the most important part of this program is the career portfolio that students create. Our advisors work closely  to help students build resumes, prepare for interviews, and to develop networking techniques.
