Saskatchewan School Boards Association Scholarships

Each year, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association awards two $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school students who remain in Saskatchewan in post-secondary study:

Degree Program Scholarship: $2,500
Technical/Trade Program Scholarship: $2,500

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated good character, community leadership, financial need, and a 500-word essay. The application deadline is Aug. 31 each year. To access the application form and view the rubric that is being used to score the scholarships, visit:

Great Plains College Entrance Scholarships 2016

You are automatically considered for an Entrance Scholarship or Early Entrance Award when youapply to a full-time student loan-eligible program before the scholarship deadline (see below).
You must pay your $55 application fee and submit your most current transcripts for your application to be considered.
  • $500 minimum Entrance Scholarship 
  • $5,000 maximum Entrance Scholarship 
  • $1,000 Early Entrance Award (Gr. 11)

Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists Scholarship

The Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists offers scholarships to support youth in achieving their career in agrology related sectors, including agriculture, bioresources, food or the environment, the Institute’s six branches are each awarding a scholarship of $1,000 to candidates who meet the eligibility requirements and demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in agrology.

SCHOLARSHIP: Six (6) $1,000 scholarships.

This hands-on, half-day workshop for women ages 16+ offers an introduction to the Integrated Resource Management, Geographic Information Science, and Resource and Environmental Law programs. This workshop explores careers such as a biologist, a forester, or nature interpreter; careers in digital mapping, data analysis and Global Positioning System (GPS); or careers in conservation law enforcement.

 MC College is an accredited institution across western Canada with 6 campuses in total offering Hairstyling and Esthetics programs.  The purpose of our scholarship is to encourage creative young individuals interested in pursuing a career in the Salon or Spa Industry.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating grade 12 student who is seeking financial assistance for post-secondary studies. It is competitive and merit-based as applicants must have a minimum average of 80% and must demonstrate leadership.

Please advise any students who are still interested in applying to submit their applications before June 1st!
Note: All education applications received before the March 1st deadline have entered the selection process and these students will begin to hear back from the Faculty of Education by mid-April.

Also a reminder that even though the Priority Deadline has passed, students can continue to apply for most programs until August 15th.

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Scholarships 2016

Deadline: May 6, 2016, 4:30 pm

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) has a scholarship program for undergraduate students. Each spring SPG awards five undergraduate scholarships to first-year students enrolled in the fall in a Saskatchewan-based post-secondary agriculture program. To be eligible for one of these scholarships the student or the student’s parent(s) must be an active pulse producer in Saskatchewan (i.e. he/she has sold a Saskatchewan-grown pulse crop in the last two crop years).

thinkAG Scholarships

Know a Grade 12 student or recent high school graduate pursuing agriculture-related post-secondary education in the fall of 2016?

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture awards a grand-prize scholarship of $4,000 and three runner-up scholarships of $2,000 for students who thinkAG. Applicants need to produce a three-minute creative video or write a well-researched fact-based 1,000-word essay that highlights agriculture’s stewardship story; and provide proof of acceptance to a post-secondary institution and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, agriculture industry or community leader.

MS Society Scholarship

The MS Society of Canada is pleased to announce a new scholarship program available for youth affected by multiple sclerosis in Canada.  Given that you may have students within your school board/district affected by MS, we are sharing the information and the attached posters in the hopes you will be able to help spread the word about this exciting and highly lucrative scholarship. If you could pass this email to the person responsible for communication to principals, guidance counsellors, etc. that would be greatly appreciated.
The John Helou Scholarship will award up to two Canadian youth with the financial support they need to overcome the financial obstacles that come with a personal or familial diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, enabling them to reach their full potential and become the next generation of MS leaders. The recipients must be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or math undergraduate program. Recipients of the John Helou Scholarship will receive $6,250/year for four years to apply to tuition– for a total scholarship of $25,000.
Applications are being accepted for this scholarship between now and March 31, 2016 at https://juno.aucc.ca/app/mssociety.html. Updates from UBC

January 31: UBC's application deadline

We have already received over 18,000 applications to UBC, and the deadline is fast approaching.
Encourage your students who wish to be considered for 2016/17 admission to complete and submit their online application – including the Personal Profile – by 11:59 pm PST on January 31.
In addition, qualified students with significant financial need can apply for the UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Award by February 1.

Applying to Engineering without Physics 12

Students who have not taken Physics 12 are still encouraged to apply to Engineering if they are academically strong in Chemistry 12 and Pre-Calculus 12 (or equivalent).
Students from schools where Physics 12 or Chemistry 12 are not available may also apply (email details to grades.canada@ubc.ca).
Outstanding applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may be admitted despite the missing course.

Distributed Learning deadlines 

Students may use Distributed Learning courses:
  • completed by February 1 to calculate their competitive admission average (in time for self-reporting)
  • completed by June 30 to meet program-specific requirements

More than 700 Aboriginal youth from across Saskatchewan have participated annually in this well-known event. It has become a model for connecting with Aboriginal youth from all over Saskatchewan and provides leading companies and organizations the opportunity to make real face-to-face connections. United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Tour 2016

This program is made up of carefully selected high school students form around the world. It is an opportunity of a lifetime. This is an outstanding educational experience for teenagers interested in a better understanding of the world and international affairs.

The tour includes 4 days in New York City, all expenses paid, sponsored by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Saskatchewan.

Upcoming Events at SaskPolytechnic

Business and Beyond
Business and Beyond gives high school students, in grade 11 and 12, a chance to demonstrate their problem-solving skills, business knowledge and teamwork as they compete against other students from across the province.
Similar to popular TV shows like Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and the ever popular game of Monolopy, teams face off against each other.  The goal is to earn points in mini competitions, in each of the six Business Diplomas.
The four teams with the highest points will compete in a final competition in the Panther's Lair.  Teams are required to address all aspects of business by presenting their plans in areas of finance, human resources and marketing.  

Information Night
The event is scheduled for Thursday November 26th, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at our campuses in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina and Moose Jaw.

Women in Trades Workshop
This hands-on, one weekend course for women offers an introduction to a variety of basic trade skills.  Course content includes Carpentry and Welding.  Upon successful completion of the course, participants are issued a statement of attendance.  The course provides women with:
increased post-secondary training/education and employment potential in trades; 
the opportunity to explaore training options in a variety of trades;
understanding of the physical, emotional and academic requirements of training/education and employment in trades
Shop sessions include:
Welding
Participants will learn how to assemble and tack weld steel, use assorted shaping methods as well as use cleaning, finishing and cutting tools.

U of Saskatchewan - Early Admission Deadline and Best & Brightest Scholarships

December 1 is the last day to apply for early admission to:
By December 1, the online application for admission, application fee, and transcripts, class schedules and any other required documents, such as proof of English language proficiency, must be received by the University of Saskatchewan Admissions Office.

December 1 is also the deadline to apply for admission for anyone planning to apply for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships, the University of Saskatchewan's highest valued, renewable entrance scholarships valued up to $40,000.

The four teams with the highest points will compete in a final competition in the Panther's Lair.  Each team is given a mystery box that contains random items.  Using one of these items, teams are tasked with pitching a business concept/product to a panel of potential investors.  Teams are required to address all aspects of business by presenting their plans in areas of finance, human resoures and marketing.

Applied Trade Math Online at Saskatchewan Polytechnic

Applied Trade Math MOOC will provide students the opportunity to review and improve their math skills. In this course students will review concepts related to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, measuring, algebra, geometry, and working with money. The course focusses on concepts most commonly used in workplace, apprenticeship and trades environments.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec) who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:
  • Up to $10,000 for tuition per year (for up to a maximum of four years)
  • $7,500 a year for living expenses (for up to a maximum of four years)
