Loran Scholars for 2016

Deadline: October 21 - for sponsored applicants
Loran Scholars are young people who deeply value integrity and honesty. They are curious by nature, and are interested in a wide range of subjects. Furthermore, they are willing to take meaningful risks and prioritize results over appearances. Each one has shown a sustained commitment to service in the community, has taken the initiative to create positive changes and is interested in working for a better world.

The Loran Award is valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including one-on-one mentorship and a summer program. We will also grant 40 provincial awards ($2,000 each) and 40 finalist awards ($3,000 each) to top students. Find out more about our university awards.

The deadline for sponsored applications is October 21, 2015We have the earliest application deadlines for any major scholarship, and more than 80% of our applicants hear about the opportunity to apply through their school. You can help us discover and support Canada's most talented young leaders by nominating up to three students at your school.

Admission Changes at Sask Polytechnic

Effective for the fall 2016 intake the following programs are returning to the First Qualified/First Admitted admission method.
These programs will re-open for application at 8:00 am, (Saskatchewan time), October 1, 2015.

Applications to the Civil Engineering Technology and the Water Resources Technology programs are suspended, effective July 1, 2015.  Coming soon!  Our new Civil Engineering Technologies program with specialties in Civil Construction and Water Resources.

Society of Petroleum Engineers Scholarship

Thef Society of Petroleum Engineers – Lloydminster Section, are offering the following awards to students from a high school in Lloydminster and the surrounding areas. The Lloydminster Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers donates these awards to worthy candidates to recognize graduating high school students:

·         Academic Achievement
·         Contribution to school and community
The scholarships are intended to financially assist students who will be continuing their education in a post-secondary institute and who are majoring in SCIENCE or ENGINEERING with relationship to the petroleum industry. The applicant must be in full time attendance and a member of the current year’s graduating class. At the time of awarding the scholarship the applicant must be enrolled full time in a post-secondary program of studies at a university, college or technical school.

Scholarship: Battlefords and District Chapter of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan

Each Year this group awards a $500.00 scholarship to a graduate from Living Sky School Division, Light of Christ Catholic School Division and Sakewew School Division.  All interested graduates who will be attending a recognized post-secondary institution following graduation may apply.  At their September Meeting, 2 names are drawn.  If the first name drawn fulfills all the requirements in a timely fashion, he/she will be awarded the scholarship.  If not, the second person becomes the recipient.  Should that person also be unable to meet the requirements, no scholarship will be awarded.

Saskatchewan School Boards Association Scholarships

Deadline: August 31, 2015

Each year, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association awards two $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school students who remain in Saskatchewan in post-secondary study:
University Scholarship: $2,500 for a student entering university in Saskatchewan.
Applied Science and Technology Scholarship: $2,500 for a student entering a recognized institute of applied science and technology in Saskatchewan.

Young Women in Trades Conference

Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Moose Jaw Campus along with Skills Canada will be hosting provincial competitions and various activities on Friday, April 17, 2015.  Girls in grades 9 - 12 will have the opportunity to learn about careers in trades and technologies and compete in a Junkyard Wars Challenge, an engineering competition for young women.
Transportation between venues Central Collegiate and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, a lunch and snack will be provided.  There is no cost to participate.

2015 Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program

This year, Monsanto Canada estimates it will provide approximately 65 scholarships to deserving high school students across the country entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture at at Canadian college or university. Each scholarship is valued at $1500 and will be awarded to students who meet the criteria set out in the application form.

Royal Canadian Legion Scholarships and Bursaries

Jack Moore Memorial Scholarship and Burgess Bursary

Saskatchewan Command, in cooperation with Dominion Command of The Royal Canadian Legion, is offering 10 scholarships of $300 each. In addition, Saskatchewan Command is offering 10 bursaries of $300 each.

Recipients must:

  • reside in Saskatchewan
  • be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a veteran, of a still-serving military member, or of an RCMP member
  • have completed grade 12 and be entering into FIRST YEAR at a university, technical school (minimum 2 year coure) or a business college.

WorkSafe Video Contest

Deadline: Friday, April 17 at 4:00 pm

WorkSafe Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) invite high school students to create a 2-minute video that tells their friends about workplace health and safety. You must use this year’s theme, “If it feels wrong, just ask”.  The contest is open to all grade 9 to 12 students.

Destination UBC is a full-day information event on UBC’s Vancouver campus and takes place on Saturday, May 23. Attendees will:
  • tour the campus
  • meet new-to-UBC students from across Canada
  • learn from professors and advisors about your first-year program
  • get the tools you need for everything from financial planning to living in residence or being a commuter student.

If you are a Canadian or international high school student living in Canada — and your high school is located in Canada — and you have received your UBC offer of admission, you may be eligible for our travel reimbursement program. 17th Annual Skills Canada Provincial Competition

April 16-17, 2015

Sask Polytechnic Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Regina Campuses; A.E. Peacock Collegiate and Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw

This competition is to bring together high school, post-secondary students, apprentices and other training program young people, to showcase each person's skills and knowledge in the skilled trades and technologies in our province. 
There are two competition categories – secondary (high school students) and post-secondary (SIAST students, apprentices and other training facility students).
The competition provides a venue for youth in our province to compete against other Saskatchewan youth at a skilled trade or technology that they have been working on during the year.

National Union of Public and General Employees Scholarships

UBC Summer Scholars Program

The University of British Columbia is thrilled to announce the Summer Scholars Program is now open to high school applicants for summer 2015.
Students will spend two weeks this July engaged in hands-on research and learning with UBC professors at the beautiful Okanagan campus - a total university experience. 

Two exciting courses to choose from

Environmental Sciences, in which students tackle the hot topic of sustainability, and explore it through field research in lab and natural surroundings of the Okanagan valley. 
New this year! Applied Science, in which students are introduced to the design process through applied engineering projects, and explore topics ranging from robotics technology to 3D printing.

How will your students benefit from the program?

They'll be connected to ideas and people that have global influence and get a taste of a world-class university-level education.
The Summer Scholars Program is a non-credit course that will give students a solid foundation in environmental or applied sciences. They will:
  • Complete a final study project, perfect for any college application
  • Live on campus and be mentored by current UBC students 
  • Explore the city of Kelowna, a top tourist destination in BC
  • Meet and make friends from all over the world [video] - more than 70 students from 27 countries have participated so far

Who is eligible?

Students must be:
  • Between 16 and 18 years of age;

ISaskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) will be giving out five, $5,000 scholarships again in 2015. Due to the great success of our Admission on the Spot events we have decided to host another one on March 10th. For all of your students who have waited and are starting to worry about their applications, please let them know not to worry and if they come out to this event we will take care of them. All students need to do is show up on campus with a School Certified Transcript and the $100 application fee. We will be able to help them fill out their applications, calculate their admission average, and if admissible admit them into their faculty of choice. (Due to the competitive nature of Education and Nursing, we are not able to admit students into these faculties on this day)

University of Toronto Summer Programs in Law and Medicine

The University of Toronto's summer programs offer high school students an idea of what it would be like to be a student in the faculty of Law or Medicine at this institution.

The Law YSP allows students to discuss advance legal concepts and apply them in a variety of environments within the reality of the Canadian legal system; the Med YSP showcases opportunities available in medicine and medical research.

My Robot Rumble

 Things are beginning to ramp up for the Saskatchewan Polytechnic myRobot Rumble competition to be held on Thursday March 26th, 2015 at the Saskatoon Campus.   This will be the 6th iteration of this annual event, and all indications are that the 2015 version will be as successful as the previous 5.
    This is a great event for students interested in the field of electronics, and it promotes the concepts of problem solving, teamwork, programming and sportsmanship.
Registration will open in January, I invite you to register your school and teams by the deadline dates indicated below.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and Queen's Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

In 2001, the Government created the Prince of Wales Scholarship to provide Grade 11 students with assistance during their Grade 12 school year.  In 2012, the scholarship was renamed to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Fund during the royal visit to the province.  The scholarship is intended to assist youth in community schools to complete their secondary education.  Twenty students are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship, paid in two instalments (fall and spring).
In 2012, Premier Brad Wall announced the creation of a new scholarship during the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to the province, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.  The scholarship is intended to assist Grade 12 students attending community schools to transition into post-secondary studies at a university or technical institute.  Six students are eligible to receive a $1000 scholarship.

On December 5th the Paul J. Hill School of Business will host "What is Business Admin". This is an event where Grade 11 and 12 students are given a taste of what it is like to be a business student. Students are given mini-lectures in the different areas of study by professors. Student groups and alumni are also on hand to talk about their experience in the Faculty and how new students can get involved.

Who is Kinesiology and Health Studies

The University of Regina and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies is inviting students in Grade 11 and 12 to spend December 5th exploring the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Students will hear from faculty members, learn about our degree programs, certifications and community connections, explore our research labs and engage in unique sporting experiences!

Music Students Tour

The Music Department at the University of Regina, Faculty of Fine Arts invites prospective students and their parents to visit open classes and rehearsals during the week of Monday, November 24, through Friday, November 28, 2014.

Students can come and experience a day in the life of a university music student by sitting in on a selection of music classes for first-year music majors and are invited to bring their instruments or their voice to join in rehearsals with our major ensembles.

The week will also feature:
- Tuesday and Thursday noon-time recitals by students of our department
- a Monday evening voice recital by faculty member Dr. Helen Pridmore (7:30 p.m.. in the Shu-box Theatre)
- a Friday at noon concert by the Students' New Music Ensemble directed by Dr. Alain Perron
