UBC Summer Scholars Program

The University of British Columbia is thrilled to announce the Summer Scholars Program is now open to high school applicants for summer 2015.
Students will spend two weeks this July engaged in hands-on research and learning with UBC professors at the beautiful Okanagan campus - a total university experience. 

Two exciting courses to choose from

Environmental Sciences, in which students tackle the hot topic of sustainability, and explore it through field research in lab and natural surroundings of the Okanagan valley. 
New this year! Applied Science, in which students are introduced to the design process through applied engineering projects, and explore topics ranging from robotics technology to 3D printing.

How will your students benefit from the program?

They'll be connected to ideas and people that have global influence and get a taste of a world-class university-level education.
The Summer Scholars Program is a non-credit course that will give students a solid foundation in environmental or applied sciences. They will:
  • Complete a final study project, perfect for any college application
  • Live on campus and be mentored by current UBC students 
  • Explore the city of Kelowna, a top tourist destination in BC
  • Meet and make friends from all over the world [video] - more than 70 students from 27 countries have participated so far

Who is eligible?

Students must be:
  • Between 16 and 18 years of age; 
  • Entering one of their final two years of high school;
  • In good academic standing (unofficial transcript required); and
  • Be able to undertake studies in English at a university level

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Scholarships

Undergraduate Scholarships Available for First-Year Students Enrolled in a Saskatchewan-Based Post-Secondary Program
 
Deadline: May 8, 2015

ISaskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) will be giving out five, $5,000 scholarships again in 2015. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must complete Grade 12 this year and go on to attend a Saskatchewan-based post-secondary program full-time this fall, in a program associated with the agriculture industry.

This year RE/MAX is once again offering (16) $1,000 bursaries for a total of $16,000 to grade 12 students.

Due to the great success of our Admission on the Spot events we have decided to host another one on March 10th. For all of your students who have waited and are starting to worry about their applications, please let them know not to worry and if they come out to this event we will take care of them. All students need to do is show up on campus with a School Certified Transcript and the $100 application fee. We will be able to help them fill out their applications, calculate their admission average, and if admissible admit them into their faculty of choice. (Due to the competitive nature of Education and Nursing, we are not able to admit students into these faculties on this day)

University of Toronto Summer Programs in Law and Medicine

The University of Toronto's summer programs offer high school students an idea of what it would be like to be a student in the faculty of Law or Medicine at this institution.

The Law YSP allows students to discuss advance legal concepts and apply them in a variety of environments within the reality of the Canadian legal system; the Med YSP showcases opportunities available in medicine and medical research.

My Robot Rumble

 Things are beginning to ramp up for the Saskatchewan Polytechnic myRobot Rumble competition to be held on Thursday March 26th, 2015 at the Saskatoon Campus.   This will be the 6th iteration of this annual event, and all indications are that the 2015 version will be as successful as the previous 5.
    This is a great event for students interested in the field of electronics, and it promotes the concepts of problem solving, teamwork, programming and sportsmanship.
Registration will open in January, I invite you to register your school and teams by the deadline dates indicated below.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and Queen's Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

In 2001, the Government created the Prince of Wales Scholarship to provide Grade 11 students with assistance during their Grade 12 school year.  In 2012, the scholarship was renamed to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Fund during the royal visit to the province.  The scholarship is intended to assist youth in community schools to complete their secondary education.  Twenty students are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship, paid in two instalments (fall and spring).
In 2012, Premier Brad Wall announced the creation of a new scholarship during the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to the province, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.  The scholarship is intended to assist Grade 12 students attending community schools to transition into post-secondary studies at a university or technical institute.  Six students are eligible to receive a $1000 scholarship.

Music Students Tour

The Music Department at the University of Regina, Faculty of Fine Arts invites prospective students and their parents to visit open classes and rehearsals during the week of Monday, November 24, through Friday, November 28, 2014.

Students can come and experience a day in the life of a university music student by sitting in on a selection of music classes for first-year music majors and are invited to bring their instruments or their voice to join in rehearsals with our major ensembles.

The week will also feature:
- Tuesday and Thursday noon-time recitals by students of our department
- a Monday evening voice recital by faculty member Dr. Helen Pridmore (7:30 p.m.. in the Shu-box Theatre)
- a Friday at noon concert by the Students' New Music Ensemble directed by Dr. Alain Perron

Agriculture Student Scholarship

Students in grade 12 and recent graduates entering agriculture-related post-secondary studies in 2016 are encouraged to apply. Applicants are required to produce a three minute creative video or write a well-research fact-based 1000 word essay that showcases the agriculture industry.

Shad Valley

SHAD is a registered Canadian charity whose mission is to empower exceptional high school students who will become future leaders.

 Each year, SHAD provides the opportunity for more than 600 students from across Canada and internationally to attend a month-long summer program, in-residence at one of 12 Canadian host universities. Programming is centred around science, technology, engineering & math. 

The selection process is competitive and is based on strong academics, leadership, creativity, volunteerism. Athleticism, artistic or musical abilities are also considered.

Suspended Admission for Home Economics and Industrial Arts Education Programs at U of S

For a period of one year (2015-16), the College of Education has suspended admission to the direct-entry Practical and Applied Arts (PAA) programs in Home Economics and Industrial Arts.

The College is exploring modes of delivery that will update the PAA curriculum and increase connections with community-based contexts in ways that will also advance education opportunities for people interested in PAA teacher education.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school in Canada who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:
  • Up to $10,000 for tuition per year (for up to a maximum of four years)
  • $7,500 a year for living expenses (for up to a maximum of four years)

U of S - New early admission deadline for the Colleges of Engineering, Kinesiology and Edwards School of Business

This year, to help us get offers out earlier to your high-achieving students, we are pleased to offer an early admission deadline of December 1 for our competitive ranking-based colleges.

To be considered, students should submit their:
  • online application for admission and application fee
  • transcript from the Ministry of Education
  • Grade 12 timetable (which should show that the student is registered in college-specific subjects required for admission and should point out any non-semestered subjects)
  • proof of English language proficiency
Eligible applicants with an admission average of 90%+ will be offered conditional admission and will not need to wait for the competitive ranking to take place in February.

The final application deadline for these colleges remains February 15, with a document deadline of March 1. Remaining applicants will be ranked competitively and spaces will be offered from the top down according to admission average.

Univerisity of Saskatchewan Best and Brightest Scholarships - NEW

This year, the university's highest-valued, renewable scholarships will be offered earlier than ever to your high-achieving, best and brightest students.  The application for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships is due December 15. To be eligible to apply, students must apply for admission and submit all transcripts and other documents by December 1.

These scholarships include:
  • George and Marsha Ivany President's First and Best Scholarships
  • Chancellors' Scholarships
  • U of S Entrance Scholarships

SARM 90th Anniversary Student Scholarship

Deadline: February 6, 2015

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
  • Be enrolled in grade 12 for the current school year;
  • Be planning on studying at a Saskatchewan post secondary school in the fall following secondary graduation.  Students can also be studying outside of Saskatchewan if the course is not offered in Saskatchewan;
  • Have completed the last two years of high school in Saskatchewan;
  • Have a farming background;
  • Have parents or guardians who own/rent land and pay taxes to a rural municipality; and
  • Live in a rural area.
Applicants must complete an application form and write a one-thousand word essay on the importance of safety and health on their farm or safety and health hazards on their farm.

Indspire Awards: Building Brighter Futures

Indspire has announced the launch of its $20 million Building Brighter Futures Campaign in support of bursaries and scholarships for Indigenous students across Canada. Through the campaign, donations to Indspire from corporate, provincial, and private partners will be matched up to $10 million through a commitment from the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2013.

Come out to SIAST and find out more about becoming a machinist. There will be competitions to see who will be the "maddest machinist."
Machinists set up and operate tools to cut or grind metals into precision parts or products. They make things such as the die-cast to set the plastic for your cell phone case. They also make the molds to manufacture your car tires.

CSI is a way to get an in-depth look at a specific program and become familiar with the student life, campus atmosphere, financial aid, admission requirements and the application process.

CSI SIAST is available to students in grades 11 and 12 as well as high school graduates.

Sears DX High School Design Competition

Entry Deadline: April 24, 2015

This competition promotes the study and awareness of all design disciplines in schools across Canada and is open to all high school students at junior (grades 9 and 10) and senior (grades 11 and 12) levels.

Loran Scholars Program

The Loran Scholars Program offers 30 scholarships valued at up to $100,000 over four years, including mentorship and a summer program, as well as 40 finalist awards ($3,000) and 40 provincial awards ($2,000).

Candidates must:
  • Be in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school or CEGEP. (In Québec, students planning to attend university outside of Québec after only one year of CEGEP are also eligible to apply in their first year of CEGEP). Exceptions will be considered for those who have undertaken a gap year for academic pursuits or community service-based activities.
  • Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%
  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
Successful candidates are chosen on the basis of character, service and leadership.

Re/Max Western Canada Quest for Excellence Bursary 2015

The Quest for Excellence Program is a bursary program for grade 12 students in Western Canada.  It was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives.

16 bursaries of $1,000 each to qualifying Grade 12 students.  In addition, the 16 bursary winners will be entered into a draw and one lucky recipient will receive a RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon ride for two. Bursary winners will be notified and all winners will be posted in April 2015.

The Quest for Excellence is open to all Grade 12 students attending high school from September, 2014 - March, 2015. Grade 12 students may not have participated in graduation commencement ceremonies in the past. Applicants must be a resident of one of the following provinces/territories.

    British Columbia
    Alberta
    Saskatchewan
    Manitoba
    Yukon Territory

Students are to convey the contributions they have made to their communities in a short online essay, maximum 1,250 words. Key qualities students should demonstrate are leadership, motivation and communication skills.  Other attributes may include volunteering, participation in charitable events or fundraising, and contributions that enrich the lives of others and their communities.

21st Skills Canada National Competition in Saskatoon!

May 27-30 - Prairieland Park, Saskatoon

Skills Canada  hosts annual Olympic-style skills competitions that provide a forum for secondary, post-secondary and apprentice students to compete in over 30 trade and technology competition areas.

University of Alberta Engineering Expo

The University of Alberta is hosting this annual event for "designers, creators, inventors, thinkers and dreamers" who would like to find out more about engineering programs there.
