NAIT Contest

Do you have students interested in winning some scholarship money to the Business Administration program at NAIT? Here’s their opportunity to have some fun and stretch their imaginations.
They will apply the principles of video advertising in a fun, team based competition to take place in May, 2007. This competition is great for grade 12 students, or those interested in seeing if the School of Business at NAIT is where they want to be.
There is no charge to enter the competition, but interested people must pre-register.

SaskCAT Transfer Credit Guide

The Saskatchewan Council for Admissions and Transfer now has published their guide on the web. This will be relevant for students moving from one post-secondary institution to another within the province.

UR Ready Workshops - University of Regina

Students who are planning to attend the U of R in the fall can attend a UR Ready Workshop. This will help them to finalize admission and pick up tips to make their first year a success. Topics include booking advising appointments, registering for classes, paying tuition, changing and dropping courses, getting parking passes, living in residence and much more.

Innovation Credit Union Scholarships

Deadline May 15 - The Innovation Credit Union will be awarding 12 - $1000 scholarships to graduating grade 12 students who will be enrolling in a full-time post secondary educational program (other than those at Cypress Hils or Northwest Regional Colleges) within a year. Applicants must be members of Innovation Credit Union in order to qualify and the only criteria will be academic standing. Applications are available at www.innovationcu.ca or at any Innovation Credit Union location.

Deadline April 30 - The Innovation Credit Union will also be offering one $300 "Spirit Award" to a student from each high school in communities where a branc is located. This award will recognize a Grade 12 student who doesn't necessarily have the highest academic average but is a major contributor to his/her school and community. The student will not have to attend post-secondary school in order to receive this award. Principals are to forward the name of this student by April 30th.

Masonic Scholarships/Bursaries

Deadline August 7 - Various scholarships and bursaries offered by the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star are offered annually to Saskatchewan high school graduates to proceed to higher education. See your guidance counsellor for application forms.

Legion Scholarships and Bursaries

Deadline August 28 - Saskatchewan Command, in cooperation with Dominion Command of The Royal Canadian Legion are offering 12 scholarships (based on academic standing) of $300.00 each, in addition to 12 bursaries of #300.00 (based on academic standing and financial need) each.

These are offered to students who have completed their Grade 12 and are continuing their education at university, tech;nical school or business college.

These awards are available to the sons/daughters, grandsons, granddaughters and great grandsons/granddaughters of Veterans, Ex-service or still serving Military or R.C.M.P. personnel.

U of C Open House/Orientation/Tours

The open house will take place on Saturday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in MacEwan Hall (main venue). To register, go to www.ucalgary.ca/futurestudents Spring Orientation is an opportunity for first year students to register for courses, explore the U of C and meet other students. Parents and family members also have the opportunity to attend. This program is offered nine times between May 1st and 11th. Full details and sign-up information will be included in the registration package mailed to all new students in the spring. To book a personal tour, call at least 7 days in advance.Tours are approximately 1.5 hours in length. Call 403.220.6721 to register.

U of C Scholarship Contest

Students who graduate from high school with an admission average of 80% or higher and are accepted to the U of C first year studies already qualify for an automatic admission scholarship of between $500 and $1750. Now students have the chance to double their admission scholarship by entering a contest online at www.greatmarks.ca. To qualify, students must be admitted to the U of C and have an average of 80% or higher. Contest closes April 1.

Tuition Assistance for Students Pursuing Golf Management

Do you know sports-minded students interested in careers in golf club management? If so, they may be interested to learn about financial awards available to help lessen the financial costs of post-secondary education.

Graduates of Selkirk College's two-year golf management diploma program achieve a 92% placement rate at Canada's more than 2,000 golf clubs and with salaries ranging from $35,000-$150,000. Hundreds of Selkirk grads currently work as general managers, clubhouse managers, food and beverage managers, pro shop managers, tournament coordinators, and golf professionals.

In existence since 1989, the Golf Club Management & Operations Program, within the School of Hospitality & Tourism, focuses on golf management. Courses include business communications, marketing, accounting, computers, human resources, golf club administration, business planning, turf care, conflict resolution, critical thinking, budgeting, risk prevention, business law, tournament planning, and more.

Garfield Weston Scholarship for Colleges

April 3 Deadline:
The Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges (GWMSC) program will distribute the following awards to students entering their 1st year of college studies in Canada for use during the 2007-08 academic year:

  • Up to 25 GWMSC National Awards which comprise: a tuition waiver from a consortium college renewable for one or two additional years; an $8,000 stipend renewable for one or two additional years; and access to summer program funding.
  • Up to 18 GWMSC Regional Awards which comprise:a $4,000 one-year scholarship.
  • Up to 15 GWMSC Provincial Awards which comprise:a $2,500 one-year scholarship.
To be eligible, a student must be entering his or her first year of full-time college studies leading to a certificate, diploma or applied degree in the fall of 2007 (university transfer program or pre-university DEC students are not eligible)

International Music Camp

Application Deadline April 1 - International Music Camp's Summer School of the Fine Arts - takes place every summer at the International Peace Garden on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba.Instruction is available in both choir and instrumental programs, taught by internationally noted guest conductors and artist-teachers. Sessions run from mid-June through the end of July.

Canadian instrumental students may apply for a Myrtle Lorimer Memorial Scholarship to help offset the costs of this experience.

Art and Design: Pre-College Summer Program

Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary):

The Pre-College Program piloted last year and is a 20 day interdisciplinary program for students aged 16-18 who have completed grades 10, 11 or 12. Not only do students get a grasp of what college is like, but they can also use theworkthey make during the program towards portfolios for entry into the college.
Classes for this program will not focus entirely on any particular medium.There will be 90 total contact hours with instructors, 80 of those in Design and FineArt studios, 10 in Liberal Studies.
For out of town students who require it, we will have the opportunity for students to have accommodations at the SAIT dorms (minimum numbers required).

Luther College at the U. of R - Information Night

The annual Luther College Information Night will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. All students, parents, teachers, and counsellors or other interested individuals are welcome to attend. This session will deal with admission procedures, program selection, tuition, financial assistance, residence, student life and student services.

From January 15 to February 19, graduating high school students and students attending post-secondary institutions across Canada can naviage their way to winning one of 61 scholarships, ranging from $500 to $5000 by answering online questions about Canada's national identity at www.talkaboutcanada.ca Students participating in the quiz are provided with thousands of helpful links to websites on Canadian topics at Operation Dialogue's Resource Centre at www.operation-dialogue.com. Participants are also encourages to discuss the quiz with their friends, teachers and family members.
