Blyth Cambridge Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Program provides full funding and the opportunity for graduating Canadian high school students to complete their first degree at Cambridge University. Students will attend Pembroke College, one of Cambridge’s oldest and most distinguished colleges.

Deadline October 12 - Since 1994, the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business has helped progressive Canadian corporations distribute nearly $2 million to some 1260 students in every province and territory.

Wichitowin Foundation Justice Study Scholarship

Deadline: September 14 - In 1995, the RCMP and the Regina Police Service hosted a National Aborginal Youth Conference in Regine. As a legacy to this conference, a Justice Study Scholarship for Aboriginal youth has been established for two First Nations and two Metis recipients who are pusuing education or a career in policing. The amount of each scholarship is $2000.

SGI Corporate Scholarship

The SGI Corporate Scholarship is open to all Saskatchewan residents attending accredited post-secondary institutions in Saskatchewan. Eight $2,500 scholarships are awarded each year - four to university students and four to students attending a technical institute. Scholarships are awarded for one year on a one-time basis - recipients may receive only one SGI scholarship during their studies.
To be eligible for an SGI Corporate Scholarship, a student must:

• be a Saskatchewan resident
  
• be enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program related to the business needs of SGI at an accredited post-secondary campus in Saskatchewan. Business needs of SGI are defined very broadly to include all aspects and departments included in the corporation
  show their contribution to community, extracurricular activities or commitments made in balancing work, education and home responsibilities
  
• be receiving no other scholarship funding for the current school year
  

Applications must be received at SGI no later than Sept. 30 each year.

SIAST Post-Secondary Success Courses

A series of four post-secondary success courses will be offered in August 2007. Courses will address subjects and skills such as math, writing, computers and student success strategies which commonly pose challenges for new SIAST students. Courses are offered over a two-week period so that you may choose to take more than one of the four courses.

Blyth Cambridge Scholarship Program

These scholarships are offered annually to graduating Canadian high school students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievment and the ability to excell at Cambridge University in England. CUPE 4747 Scholarship

The new criteria for the CUPE 4747 scholarship have now been developed. Eligible sutdents must have a parent/guardian who has been a member of CUPE local 4747 for at least one full year. Students must submit applications including high school marks and a letter outlining future education plans to CUPE local 4747 by April 30 of their graduating year.

Lakeland College Summer Camps 2007

Lakeland College, Vermilion and Lloydminster Campuses, will be offering volleyball, basketball, golf and rodeo camps during the summer of 2007. These camps are directed at a range of participant age groups and some include children as young as nine years old.

Prince Edward Drama Scholarship

The application for the Prince Edward Drama Scholarship has been extended until June 15, 2007. Saskatchwewan drama students aged 13 to 18 are eligible to receive up to $500 through the Prince Edward Drama Scholarship to attend a drama program in Saskatchewan.

Programs could include drama camps and youth theatre classes - - everything from acting and playwriting to directing and design. To be eligible, students must have an award average of 80% or higher (based on Grade 11 or Grade 12 final grades) and plan to enter full-time studies in an undergraduate degree program at the U of A in September 2008.

SSBA Scholarships

August 31 – Saskatchewan School Boards Association Scholarships - $1000 each with one awarded to a student attending university and one awarded to a student who will be enrolled in a science/technology program (e.g. SIAST). Ask your guidance counsellor for application forms.

SIAST - Admission Changes

SIAST now has three forms of admission:

Regular Admissions - applications accepted on an ongoing basis and one a first-qualified, first admitted basis. Qualified applicants not successful with securing a seat must re-apply. Applicants can maintain their FQFA status by reapplying during a reapplication window (after the program start date i.e. October 1-31); includes another application fee.

High Demand - more competitive. Two phases for acceptance: phase 1 is academic and phase 2 is selective criteria set by the program. Intake for the fall of 2007 will remain FQFA but applicants not successful in the fall of 2007 will be carried forward to new process for the fall of 2008. New process effective July 1, 2008 intakes. Out-of-province applications will not be accepts. Special Admission (accuplacer and postsecondary) will not apply. Equity seats will remain. Applicant pool dissolved after last intake begins. Applicants must apply every year.

Lakeland College - Vermillion - New Programs

Lakeland College’s Trades Centre on the Vermilion campus will be bustling with even more activity in the next academic year with the addition of two new programs and hundreds of new training seats.
Steamfitter-pipefitter and instrument technician apprenticeship programs will debut at Lakeland College starting in early 2008. The addition of 48 seats in these first year programs are only a fraction of the new apprenticeship training seats at Lakeland College in 2007-08.
“The most significant addition is in welding,” said Bert Samuelson, acting dean of the School of Trades and Technology. “From our initial request of 240 seats in 2006-07 we’re going to 600 seats in 2007-08.”
Heavy equipment technician has the next biggest increase with 72 new seats, raising the total to 228. Carpentry will go up by 24 seats and electrical by 12. There will be no change to the parts technician program, but a slight drop in the number of automotive service technician program to 80 seats.
Lakeland College will now offer apprenticeship training in automotive service, carpentry, electrical, heavy equipment, instrumentation, parts, steamfitter-pipefitter and welding. During the next academic year, apprenticeship training at Lakeland College will run from Sept. 4, 2007 through to June 27, 2008.

Masonic Bursaries

Deadline August 7 - These are offered annually to Saskatchewan High School graduates who proceed to an institution of higher learning anywhere in Canada. Selection is based upon academic achievement, leadership skills, community and schol activities, speical awards an need.

Candidates must be registered for a full academic load for a full academic year as required by the institution chosen. The scholarship will be awarded after proof of registration in the institution and receipt of winner's S.I.N. which is required for income tax purposes.

University of Toronto National Book Award and Scholarship

Deadline October 5, 2007 - This competition targets Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents who will be ready to begin university study in September of 2008. This will cover tuition and incidental fees for four years of undergraduate study, will provide residence support inthefirst year and will include an additional, renewable monetary award. Selection is based on exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievement, with the annual value of the scholarship determined by individual financial circumstances.

Tommy Rutherford Masonic Bursary

Deadline May 30 - This $500 bursary is open to students at CutKnife, Luseland, Macklin, Unity and McLurg High Schools. It goes to a student whose parents or grandparents are or were affiliated with any masonic lodge.

U of A Transtion to University/Academic Advantage Programs

T2U: Transition to University is an exciting new program for grade 12 students attending the University of Alberta in the Fall of 2007. T2U is an interactive online workshop that helps to familiarize students with parts of the university culture before they attend their first year so that they are better able to succeed when they get here. The Academic Advantage is a one day course for high school students, teachers and parents to prepare them for the academic changes and challenges associated with university. Changes to U of A Scholarship Applications

The application form for Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards is soon going to be available in Bear Tracks! All students, regardless of whether or not they have applied to the University of Alberta, will be able to use Bear Tracks to submit their scholarship applications! Students who have already applied to the University of Alberta can log into their Bear Tracks account to submit their scholarship application, monitor its status, submit an electronic copy of any essay’s, and even accept their award.Students who have not yet applied to the University of Alberta and do not have a Bear Tracks account can log into Bear Tracks as a Guest to submit their scholarship application. Within 72 hours of submitting a scholarship application, applicants will be granted access to Bear Tracks via a University of Alberta Campus Computing ID (CCID), where they will be able to monitor their scholarship application status and even accept their award online.

2007 Apple Scholars Program - Canada

The 2007 Apple Scholars Awards Program (“Program”) is sponsored by Apple Canada Inc. (“Sponsor”). The purpose of this Program is to provide selected students who will be attending a Canadian post secondary educational institution in Fall 2007, with technology and money toward tuition to assist them in using Apple products in innovative ways in their academic pursuits. The Program begins on April 2, 2007, and ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on May 31, 2007 (the “Program Period”).

Phase One - E-application. Judgment will be rendered based upon the following criteria to select 15 finalists:

Luther College at the University of Regina is hosting their annual "Spend-a-Night" at Luther College Residence on May 11-12, 2007.

Bill Kehler Memorial Awards

The Edmonton Rodeo Cowboy's Benevevolent Fund and Northlands are once again offering this award. This is open to students who have completed grade 12 and are pursuing post-secondary education. Up to four awards of $2500 each will be awarded this fall and announced at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in November in Edmonton. Awards will be distributed to students with academic interests in broadcasting or agriculture. Innovation Credit Union Scholarships

Deadline May 15 - The Innovation Credit Union will be awarding 12 - $1000 scholarships to graduating grade 12 students who will be enrolling in a full-time post secondary educational program (other than those at Cypress Hils or Northwest Regional Colleges) within a year. Applicants must be members of Innovation Credit Union in order to qualify and the only criteria will be academic standing. Deadline April 30 - The Innovation Credit Union will also be offering one $300 "Spirit Award" to a student from each high school in communities where a branc is located. This award will recognize a Grade 12 student who doesn't necessarily have the highest academic average but is a major contributor to his/her school and community. The student will not have to attend post-secondary school in order to receive this award. Principals are to forward the name of this student by April 30th.

U of C Scholarship Contest

Students who graduate from high school with an admission average of 80% or higher and are accepted to the U of C first year studies already qualify for an automatic admission scholarship of between $500 and $1750. Now students have the chance to double their admission scholarship by entering a contest online at www.greatmarks.ca. To qualify, students must be admitted to the U of C and have an average of 80% or higher. Contest closes April 1.

Tuition Assistance for Students Pursuing Golf Management

Garfield Weston Scholarship for Colleges

April 3 Deadline:
The Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges (GWMSC) program will distribute the following awards to students entering their 1st year of college studies in Canada for use during the 2007-08 academic year:

• Up to 25 GWMSC National Awards which comprise: a tuition waiver from a consortium college renewable for one or two additional years; an $8,000 stipend renewable for one or two additional years; and access to summer program funding.
• Up to 18 GWMSC Regional Awards which comprise:a $4,000 one-year scholarship.
• Up to 15 GWMSC Provincial Awards which comprise:a $2,500 one-year scholarship.

To be eligible, a student must be entering his or her first year of full-time college studies leading to a certificate, diploma or applied degree in the fall of 2007 (university transfer program or pre-university DEC students are not eligible)

International Music Camp

Application Deadline April 1 - International Music Camp's Summer School of the Fine Arts - takes place every summer at the International Peace Garden on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba.Instruction is available in both choir and instrumental programs, taught by internationally noted guest conductors and artist-teachers. Sessions run from mid-June through the end of July.

Canadian instrumental students may apply for a Myrtle Lorimer Memorial Scholarship to help offset the costs of this experience.

Art and Design: Pre-College Summer Program

Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary):

The Pre-College Program piloted last year and is a 20 day interdisciplinary program for students aged 16-18 who have completed grades 10, 11 or 12. Not only do students get a grasp of what college is like, but they can also use theworkthey make during the program towards portfolios for entry into the college.
Classes for this program will not focus entirely on any particular medium.There will be 90 total contact hours with instructors, 80 of those in Design and FineArt studios, 10 in Liberal Studies.
For out of town students who require it, we will have the opportunity for students to have accommodations at the SAIT dorms (minimum numbers required).

U. of A. - Admission Requirement Changes for B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts general program will now accept a broader selection of high school academic subjects. The new requirements are as follows::: Grade 12 academic English (Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 or equivalent):: Four subjects from:- Group A = Humanities - Group B = Fine Arts (only one Fine Arts subject may be presented for admission)- Group C = Maths and SciencesFor a full list of the subjects included in Groups A, B, and C, please consult the Viewbook or the U of A website at http://www.registrar.ualberta.ca/ro.cfm?id=147#OutsideCanada

This change will align the U of A’s Faculty of Arts admission requirements with other major Canadian post-secondary institutions. It reflects the fact that not all students will pursue university programs that require specific high school course work and will allow strong humanities, social science, and fine arts students an opportunity to more fully focus on high school courses in their areas of interest, including the Sciences and Math when applicable. However, students are still encouraged to consider which area of the broad selection of programs they wish to pursue and build their high school program accordingly. For example, students seeking a program in Economics (Arts) or Psychology (Arts or Science), Business, or Education should still incorporate Pure Math 30 (or equivalent) into their schedules in order to ensure adequate preparation for the math-based courses that will be required as a part of their degree program.

STF Post-Secondary Entrance Prizes

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation is once again offering five $1,000.00 prizes by lot, to
eligible applicants who are entering a postsecondary education institution for the first time.

1. Applicants must have a natural parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian who, in the school year in which the prize is being awarded, has:

Middle Level Guidance - Skilled Trades Careers

An option to the Educational Planning unit in grade 9 has been developed with the same foundational objectives, but with activities which have a broader focus including skilled trades and apprenticeship. Also produced are a number of lesson plans which include assessment tools. The Educational Policy Institute, along with the Globe and Mail, have introduced a new Canadian university search tool for high school students who are debating where to attend post-secondary school. Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship

This program is designed to raise awareness of apprenticeship in Saskatchewan schools by helping young people discover the rewards of working in the skilled trades.

Besides gaining valuable career-planning skills and information, students who complete the youth apprenticeship and enter an apprenticeship upon graduation will receive a waiver of their registration fee, a waiver of their first level technical training tuition and up to 300 hours of trade time credit.

Students must be at least 15 years of age to participate and must either have experience with part-time or seasonal employment; be registered in a PAA course; be registered in a trade-related locally developed course; be registered in CWE 10, 20 or 30; or be registered in a PAA survey course with at least one-third trade related content.
