Upcoming Events - Various

-March 11 - North West Regional College (North Battleford) will be hosting a workshop open to all students and parents regarding scholarships, student loans and study grants. This workshop will take place from 7:00-8:00 p.m. There is no preregistration required.
-The Manitoba Science Academy provides a six week program for high school students from July 2 - August 10. This program introduces students to hands-on research and encourages them to pursue careers in science and engineering.The campus is in Pinawa, Manitoba. Bursaries and scholarships are available until May 15, 2008. See http://www.msawhiteshell.com/intro.htm for further details.
-Skills Work - this conference is for young women in grades 11 and 12 who are interested in skilled trades and technical professions. It involves networking events, hands-on activities and even a competitive component. This will take place on March 14 at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. Those interested should contact your guidance counsellor.
-Ag-Citing Careers Info Day - Lakeland College, Vermilion Campus is holding this event on March 14 in order to familiarize participants with careers in the agriculture industry. Call 1.800.661.6490 for futher information.
-UR Connected - Students in grades 10 and 11 are invited to attend this campus visit day on March 12. See www.uregina.ca/newstudent for further information.
-March 28 - University of Alberta Rural Discovery Day. Register at www.registrar.ualberta.ca/rsvp by March 21
-March 29 - Open House - CSI SIAST will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon for several programs. Ask your guidance counsellor for a detailed list and register today!

University of Lethbridge Grade 11 Merit Awards

June 30 - Deadline for University of Lethbridge Grade 11 Merit Awards. Students with an 80% average and above are encouraged to apply. Go to uleth.ca/ross/student_finance/scholarships/awards.html for an application form.

Monsanto Scholarship

May 16 - Monsanto Canada Opportunity Scholarships - For young people from farming backgrounds who wish to pusue a career in the agricultural sciences or forestry. Manitoba Science Academy

A.E. Blakeney SaskTel Bursary

In honour of Allan Blakeney's tenure on the SaskTel Board, and in recognition of his retirement, the A.E. Blakeney Bursary has been established in his name.

The A.E. Blakeney Bursary is awarded biannually and since the first award was given in 2004, future awards will be given in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. The application deadline is March 28, 2008.

The recipient of the A.E. Blakeney SaskTel Bursary will be awarded $10,000 annually for a period of four years. The total value of this four year bursary is $40,000.

Eligibility:
be in need of financial assistance in order to complete their studies. Needs assessment will be based on a Canada Student Loans formula of assessed costs and assessed resources.
be graduating or a graduate from a Saskatchewan high school with an academic standing of 80% or greater.
be a Saskatchewan resident, for a minimum of 12 months, at time of application. Must be a Canadian citizen or Landed Immigrant (people who have been granted the right to live in Canada permanently by immigration authorities).
be an entering or first year full-time student, enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit units (in Regular Session) and in a post-secondary program of at least four academic years at the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, or First Nations University of Canada. Preference will be given to those enrolled in Business/Commerce/Administration with major in Marketing or Accounting, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
Preference will be given to students who meet SaskTel's diversity criteria. Diversity includes the following: visible minorities, women in non-traditional roles, people with disabilities or Aboriginal people. Aboriginal people include the following: status and non-status First Nations, Métis and Inuit. Note: Must provide proof of Aboriginal Ancestry - photocopy of Band/Treaty card; Métis Membership card; Inuit Beneficiary card.

Payments beyond year one will be dependent on the student maintaining an acceptable academic average, continued enrollment in one of the eligible fields of study, and continued demonstration of financial need.

SHA Hockey Education Assistance

August 31 - The Saskatchewan Hockey Association shall award a minimum of eleven $1000 hockey Education Assistance Grants each hockey season to a minimum of eleven registered members of the SHA as follows:

8 - Regional (Zone) members (player, coach or member of the referees division)
1 - Midget AAA registered player
1 - Female registered player
1 - Junior A,B, or Senior registered player

Casino Regina Scholarship Program

May 31 - The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation offers scholarships to encourage Saskatchewan residents to pursue full-time post-secondary education in the fields of business administration, hospitality management, electronics or computer technologies, and communications.

Fourteen scholarships are available. Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in university degree programs, and eight $500 scholarships will be awarded in certificate or diploma programs at regional colleges and technical institutes.

To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must:

Be a Saskatchewan resident
Be enrolled or about to enroll in full-time studies (for a minimum of eight months) at a recognized post-secondary institute in Saskatchewan. (Full-time is defined by the educational facility the student is planning on attending)
Preference may be given to those students enrolled in degree, diploma or certificate programs related to business administration, hospitality management, electronics or computer technologies, and communications.

MS Scholarship Program

April 15 - The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Scholarship Program supported by Billy Talent and Friends, is accpeting applications from Canadians under the age of 25, who have MS or a parent with MS for funding toward the 2008/09 post-secondary studies.

CUPE 4747 Scholarship Criteria

April 30 -To be eligible, students must have a parent/guardian be a member of CUPE local 4747 for at least one full year. Students must submit their application including their high school marks and letter outlining future education plans to CUPE local. Proof of acceptance at a post-secondary school must be provided before money is given.

Scholarship amount is a minimum of $200 to a maximum of $1000 per region.

Workplace Health and Safety Event

Sask Advanced Education, Employment and Labour has partnered with the Sask Construction Safety Association to offer this event in Saskatoon, in conjunction with the Saskatoon and Regional Homebuilders Home Show and Career Centre. In this Olympic-style competition, students participate in paactical challenages designed to test the skills required in trade and technology occupations.

EF Global Citizen Awards

February 28 - This essay contest is for students in grades 10 and 11. Applicants are required to write an essay in response to the following prompt "Describe how a shared experience with someone form another cultural background influenced both of you as global citizens."

Two winners will be selected from Canada. The will travel with a group on a 10 day expenses paid international educational tour and will receive a 30 GB iPod.
