Katimavik: Get a Life

Katimavik is open to all young Canadians between the ages of 17 and 21 and is all expenses paid. This six or nine month program gives participants the opportunity to volunteer in community development initiatives across the country and develop valuable employment skills in the areas of civic engagement, leadership, healthy lifestyle, cultural discovery, official languages, communications, environmental stewardship,and project coordination.

This program may be of particular interest to students who are interested in a "gap year" between high school and post-secondary studies.

Canadian Western Agribition Career Expo

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership

Deadline: October 30

These scholarships are awarded to students in their final year of high school across Canada who have shown exceptional initiative in making a meaningful and lasting difference in their communities. Each scholarship includes full tuition at any approved university or college in Canada, $7500 a year towards living expenses and an offer of summer employment at TD Canada Trust.

U of A Scholastic Distinction Competition

Deadline March 1

Nominees for this award should have an award average of 95% or higher in grades 10, 11 and 12. However, if a school believes that a student is close and may qualify they should not hesitate to nominate him or her.

Students in grade 12 still have the opportunity to apply for the U of A's Academic Excellence scholarship, providing that they have an awards average of 80% or higher.

Olds College Discovery Day

Students will get an in-depth look at life on campus, spend time in a typical classroom, meet instructors and students, find out about campus housing, learn about financial assistance, and get step-by-step instructions on how to apply.

Fairness Contest

Deadline - October 5 2009

Students in grades 9-12 could win $500, lunch with the Saskatchewan Ombudsman and a visit to the Legislative Assembly in Regina. Plus, school libraries have the opportunity to be awarded $200, depending on student participation.

Entrants are to create an essay, video, comic boo, interview another project of their own choice on the theme of "fairness."

National Contest - Naval Officers' Association of Canada

Deadline: January 15, 2010

Winners
Ten provincial winners and one representing the Territories will be hosted at the Fleet Reviews. Western and Territory Winners will be hosted in Esquimalt, B.C.; Eastern Winners will be hosted in Halifax, N.S.

Scholarships
Each of the 11 winners will also receive a scholarship of $2,000. An overall winner will receive an additional$3,000.

Participants are invited to choose a topic and express their creativity through an essay, poem or
original artwork.

University of Saskatchewan Greystone Scholars

Nomination Deadline - November 1

Grade 12 students, who in grade 11 achieved an average of 95% of higher, are eligible for nomination to the Greystone Scholars Society. Students must be enrolled in a Canadian high school or be a Canadian citizen enrolled at an international high school. This nomination can be submitted by the nominee or a member of the school staff.

Greystone Scholars entering the University of Saskatchewan in September 2010 are guaranteed to receive an entrance award valued at $3000. Greystone Scholars are encouraged to apply for other entrance scholarships and, if successful, will receive the highest valued award.

At the annual See Your Future – Education & Career Fair students can explore educational opportunities, examine career paths and plan vocational goals. The event features 135 exhibitors from organizations across Canada, the USA, and overseas.

This event is currently held twice per year in Saskatoon and Regina. Thousands of students from all over Saskatchewan make the trip to this event to discover the opportunities available to them. The event is presented in a trade show approach with interactive display booths. The universities, colleges and organizations with in-house training bring expertise and innovation in a variety of fields. Students are provided with information in the form of literature, technological demonstrations, seminar presentations and one-on-one consultations.

Loran Awards 2009

The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation grants Loran Awards to talented young Canadians on the basis of character, service and leadership potential.
