National biotechnology science competition

Deadline: January 15

Sanofi Biogenius Canada is a national, biotechnology-focused science competition for Canadian high school students.
It gives students across Canada the chance to pursue biotechnology research under the guidance of real scientists in real labs. Indigenous Spend-A-Day at U of Saskatchewan




Indigenous Spend-a-Day is a one-day event held at the main uSask campus for Grade 10, 11 and 12 First Nations, Métis and Inuit students. This event takes place on January 12, 2018.

Through interactive sessions, an Indigenous uSask student panel and an information fair, students will learn about the program opportunities that have made uSask the choice of more than 2,900 current self-declared Indigenous students.

U of Saskatchewan: Important change to document deadline for early admission

December 1 is deadline to apply for early admission for the 2018 Fall Term (September) for:
NOTICE: The deadline for supplemental documents to be received by the Admissions Office for students to be considered for early admission has been extended to December 15.

By applying by December 1 and submitting supplemental documents by December 15, students can be offered early admission to these programs if they meet a minimum early admission average instead of waiting for the competitive ranking to take place following the final application deadline on February 15, 2018.

Robot Rumble

Registration for team and school entries open on Tuesday January 02nd, 2018
Deadline for school registrations:  Wednesday January 31st, 2018

Deadline for team registrations is Friday February 16th, 2018

The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Robot Rumble competition is slated for March 22nd, 2018 and is open to Saskatchewan grade 9 – 12 students.  Robot Rumble robot kits are available for participating schools on a first come, first serve basis.  The kits contain parts for two sumo wrestling robots (1 robot per team) and a practice ring.  If you plan on entering a team(s) from your school, please ensure that you submit your school registration and team registrations by the registration deadlines below.

Schulich Leadership Scholarships

Deadlines:
Feb 1 - school representative submits nominee
Feb  - nominee submits scholarship application

"Creating the next generation of technology innovators" 50 scholarships are awarded each year
  • 25 at $80,000 for science, technology or mathematics
  • 25 at $100,000 for engineering

The criteria are:
  • Graduate high school or Cégep in the 2017/2018 academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Plan to enroll in STEM at one of our partner universities
  • Meet at least two of the following criteria:
    • Academic excellence
    • Leadership (community, business or entrepreneurial)
    • Financial need
  • Not planning a career as a medical practitioner

UAlberta Scholarships & Awards

Deadline: December 18 for application-based awards

The University of Alberta administers $28 million in scholarships, awards, and financial support for new and continuing students each year?

Automatic scholarships are available to incoming undergraduate students, and require no application! Eligibility for automatic scholarships is based on admission averages at the time of admission offer. One such award is the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which provides up to $6,000 to top academic students within each year’s applicant pool, no application required! On average, the top 14% of applicants will receive an Academic Excellence Scholarship.
A number of application-based awards and scholarships are also available. Students must apply for admission to the U of A before they are eligible to apply for awards. Please see uab.ca/awards for more information about entrance award opportunities.

U of S Business Course Available for Dual Credit for High School Students

Saskatchewan high school students can take COMM 101: Introduction to Business and earn dual credit at the university and high school level (Introduction to Business 30L). Students must apply by December 1 to start in January.

The Edwards School of Business is offering two in-class workshops for high school students: an interactive business case preparation workshop with a focus on personal finance or entrepreneurship and a student-led CentsABLE workshop that focuses on financial literacy. U of S Best and Brightest Scholarships

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships deadline

December 1 is also the deadline to apply for admission to be eligible to apply for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships, the University of Saskatchewan's highest valued, renewable entrance scholarships valued up to $40,000. 

These awards, which recognize academic excellence and community engagement, include five known as the Circle of Honour Awards, which are designated for Indigenous students. 

How students can apply:
By December 1, students must have applied for admission.
A new log-in ID and a temporary password to access our PAWS web portal will be emailed to the address the student verified on the application for admission within two to three business days.
Students will need to log into PAWS and open the Scholarships and Bursaries channel to access the Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships application.

Applications for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships must be submitted by December 15.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

On Friday, September 29, 2017, at the annual In-Service and Planning Day of the Saskatchewan Association for Community Education (SACE), the Ministry of Education and SACE announced the 2017-18 school year Call for Nominations regarding the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.
Through these scholarships, Government provides an annual maximum of $16,000 to ease the financial burden that some students face during their educational journey. These students are living with vulnerable circumstances.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship assists Grade 11 students with completing their secondary education. A maximum of 20, $500 scholarships, are awarded annually.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship assists Grade 12 students with completing their post-secondary education. A maximum of six, $1000 scholarships, are awarded annually.

Students applying to the Faculty of Education must fill out the online Teacher Education Application Profile (TEAP). **Remind them to select "Teacher Education Application Profile" instead of "High School" as their application type when starting the online process.
