Partnership SIAST and U of S

SIAST and the University of Saskatchewan, College of Agriculture and Bioresources recently signed an articulation agreement that enables SIAST Natural Resources diploma graduates to transfer into the third year of the university's B.Sc.in Agriculture or the B.Sc. in Renewable Resource Management. MyFiH has launched a new website with many spaces for young people to contribute to the content of the site. SIGA Scholarship Program

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) has announced a new scholarship program that will give $25 000 to First Nations students. The scholarships, to be given out this spring, include two $5000 awards to students in computer science, commerce, or hospitality and tourism management; and two $2500 awards to communications or electronics students. Ten $1000 scholarships will also go toward First Nations language retention, as well as to eligible students in any other fields. Applications will be available on the SIGA website. The deadline is July 31.

Learning Communities - U of S

The College of Arts and Science has introduced Learning Communities for first-eyar students. Each Learning Community consists of 40 students wh take a set of three courses together. This helps students build relationships with like-minded peers both in and outof the classrom setting, as well as with faculty, through a variety of extra-curricular activities. Summer University Transition Program

The Summer University Transition Program is open to all Aboriginal students who have applied to the University of Saskatchewan for July 2008 in any direct entry college. The goal of the program is to support Aboriginal students in the transition to first year studies at the University of Saskatchewan. The Summer University Transition Program is a joint initiative between the college of Arts and Science and the Aboriginal Students' Centre. It provides a foundation for programs available within the College of Arts and Science as well as other direct entry colleges at the University of Saskatchewan.

Prince Edward Drama Scholarship

June 2 Deadline - Saskatchewan drama students aged 13 to 18 may receive up to $500 through the Prince Edward Drama Scholrship to attend a drama program in the province. Programs include drama camps and theatre classes - - everything from acting and playwriting to directing and design. The scholarship helps students with financialneed to ocer costs such as fees, travel and accomodation.

Premier's Centennial Arts Scholarship

May 15 - If you are undertaking training for a career as a professional artist in any fine arts discipline, you could be eligible for a Premier's Centennial Arts Scholarship.

These scholaships give financial assistance to full and part time students taking courses or training at an accredited post secondary institution or recognized fine arts training program.

Maximum grants are: $2500 for full time students and $1000 for part time students. Applications are available online at www.artsboard.sk.ca/Grants/grants.shtml

Bridging Opportunity - Agriculture

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS – AGRICULTURE & BIORESOURCES DIPLOMAS
Diploma programs offered in the College of Agriculture & Bioresources are two-year programs targeted at specific program opportunities in the areas of Agribusiness and Agronomy. The recent changes to the programs allow Diploma students to ladder into the Degree programs in their area of study. The admission average for these programs is 70%, however, changes to specific high school subjects required for admission are outlined as follows:

SASKATCHEWAN REQUIREMENTS

Diploma in Agribusiness
- Mathematics B30*
- Mathematics C30*
- Biology 30 or Chemistry 30 or Physics 30
*Students may be admitted with one deficiency in these subjects. Such a deficiency must be cleared before entering the second year of study.
