SIAST Program Changes

New Programs:
Mining Engineering Technology is a new program to SIAST. Applications are now being accepted for this two-year diploma program that begins in August 2012.

Fabricator-Welder certificate - The 34-week certificate program will start July 1, 2012 and will include one fall intake of 12 students. The program will be based on Steel Fabricator Level 1 and Welder Level 1 apprentice curriculum and will contain enhancements to Level 1 content so that graduates can return for Level 2 training.


Indigenous Peacekeeping  - This 25-week program will prepare graduates to help meet the community demand for trained individuals within First Nations communities who will ensure personal protection and public safety. The program will start July 1, 2012.

Canadian Forces accreditation
SIAST's Medical Laboratory Technology, Primary Care Paramedic and Dental Assisting programs have been recognized by the Canadian Forces (CF) and now qualify for a CF Paid Education program. Students who graduate from the Medical Laboratory Technology program receive advanced standing as Medical Laboratory Technologists, Primary Care Paramedic grads receive advanced standing as Medical Technicians, and Dental Assisting grads receive advanced standing as Dental Technicians.
