Science Essay Contest

Deadline: January 31

The DuPont Challenge® offers 7th to 12th grade students in the U.S. and Canada an opportunity to research and write a 700- to 1,000-word essay about a scientific discovery, theory, event or technological application that has captured their interest. The range of possible essay topics is as broad as science itself, and each year this contest attracts thousands of entries. Last year's winners included an essay about a desert beetle with the ability to capture water droplets from air moisture, and a report about how wasps and bees possess such a powerful sense of smell they could potentially be used to detect trace amounts of target materials such as drugs or explosives.

The DuPont Challenge® is sponsored by DuPont in collaboration with A+ Media, NASA, Kennedy Space Center, The Walt Disney World® Resort and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). It offers over $25,000 in savings bond awards and an expenses-paid trip to The Walt Disney World® Resort and Kennedy Space Center for the winners in each age division. More importantly, The DuPont Challenge® offers young students the opportunity to develop their scientific curiosity, apply their skills in a fun competition and gain confidence in communicating scientific ideas.
