Indigenous Student Discovery Day

In honouring its relationship with the Indigenous community, the University of Alberta invites Indigenous students in grades 10, 11, and 12 to take part in a one-day UAlberta experience at our North Campus on May 15, 2019. Students are encouraged to RSVP at uab.ca/isdd.

Saskatchewan Pulse Scholarships

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) would like to invite all students completing Grade 12 this year, to apply for five of their $5,000 scholarships being given out in 2019.

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must complete Grade 12 this year and go on to attend a Saskatchewan-based, post-secondary program, full-time this fall, in a program associated with the agriculture industry. The student or student’s parent(s) must also be registered Saskatchewan pulse growers (ex. they have sold Saskatchewan-grown pulses in the last two years).

Amount	$1000.00

Deadline	last Friday in April
Form	Along with submitting your career portfolio, you are to complete the application form, available by clicking HERE and scrolling down.
Eligibility	A graduating student from within the Living Sky School Division who is working at his/her potential. and plans to advance his/her education at a recognized post-secondary institution.  The student must possess and exhibit the qualities of a good citizen both within and outside of the school.  This should be a student who does not usually receive public recognition.  The student must meet the admission requirements of their post-secondary program, but do not necessarily have to be an Honour Roll student.  Students must submit a portfolio that provides evidence of citizenship, extra-curricular, and volunteer activities to verify their experiences.  The candidate must provide proof of successful attendance in Semester 2 courses of their chosen program before the scholarship will be awarded.

Sask. Learning Disabilities Association Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to recognize the hard work and dedication required of individuals with learning disabilities who succeed in completing their high school education and to encourage those individuals to continue their education in a post-secondary educational institution.

FIELD OF STUDY: Any field of study at any institution (in Saskatchewan) listed as a post-secondary educational institution on the website of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Education.

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP: $1000

DURATION: Three awarded annually.

DEADLINE: Completed applications as well as all supporting documents must be received by the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan postmarked no later than April 30, of the present year.

CONDITIONS: Candidates must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and permanent residents of Saskatchewan who have graduated from a Saskatchewan high school, and who have a written diagnosis of a learning disability.

PROGRAM The scholarship is administered by the Learning Disabilities.

TRANSITION AWARD 2019

Eligibility: This is a $1000.00 award in recognition of a Saskatchewan citizen who has overcome significant challenges due to a disability in order to achieve his/her goals. The individual may be entering a training program, a work experience program, beginning a new job or making some other significant transition (e.g. high school to supported employment; high school to post-secondary education; supported employment to regular employment or other transition) in Canada. The award money will be given directly to the recipient after The Saskatchewan CEC Scholarship and Awards chair has received confirmation that the person has begun the transition into his/her new situation.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP 2019

 Eligibility: This is a $1000.00 academic scholarship intended to support a Saskatchewan citizen pursuing a career directly related to working with persons with exceptionalities. The individual must be entering a full time education or training program in a Canadian institution in the next academic calendar year. The scholarship money will be given directly to the recipient after the Saskatchewan CEC Scholarship Committee chair has received confirmation that the person is registered in a post-secondary program.

Hazel Asmussen Scholarship

The Hazel Asmussen Fund provides an annual scholarship for a student who is pursuing post-secondary education in the fine arts. Hazel, a retired nurse and local artist, had long been involved in community building. Donors have contributed to this fund since 2007.

The 2019 scholarship amount is $1,015

Eligible Applicants

-         Students registered in post-secondary programs for the Fine Arts

-         Students from the Battlefords and district

Application Process

Potential applicants for the Hazel Asmussen Fund scholarship are encouraged to contact the foundation at 441-2961 (phone or text) or sterlingcommunications@littleloon.ca for more information.

Applicants must submit a completed application to the BDCF by the deadline of 5pm on March 31, 2019. The Grants Committee will review all applications by April 15, 2019. They will focus on applicants who have met the above criteria. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college/university on behalf of the successful applicant once proof of tuition deposit has been received by BDCF.

Sarah Beth Therien Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: June 31, 2019]

Are you a young person striving to make the world a safer place? Apply for the Sarah Beth Therien Memorial Scholarship, a one-time award of $2,000 recognizing safety leaders among Canada’s youth. 

The competition for the Sarah Beth Therien Memorial Scholarship is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are full-time undergraduate students, or graduating high school students entering a recognized post-secondary program in September 2019. To apply, write us a short essay (500 to 700 words) explaining how you improve safety in your community, and complete the application form. Click here for the full instructions and application form. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2019.

Access Communications Scholarship

Deadline: April 18, 2019

Grade 12 graduates across Saskatchewan can apply for 20 $1,000 Access Communications Scholarships? Since 2005, Access Communications has put more than $318,000 into the hands of high school graduates across our province. Applicants must have demonstrated record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities; participation in extracurricular school activities; demonstrated leadership skills; academic achievement and have the endorsement of their school guidance counsellor or principal.

Access also awards

•  the $1,500 Access Communications/Fred Wagman Entrance Scholarships in Film & Video to deserving students at the University of Regina. 
• the Saskatchewan Polytechnic students $3,000 annually in the Computer Networking Technician and the Telecommunications Network Technician certificate programs.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship

These scholarships provide an annual maximum of $16,000 to ease the financial burden that some students face during their educational journey. These students are living with vulnerable circumstances.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship assists Grade 11 students with completing their secondary education. A maximum of 20, $500 scholarships, are awarded annually.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship assists Grade 12 students with completing their post-secondary education. A maximum of six, $1000 scholarships, are awarded annually.

New Emergency Communications Program at SK Polytech

Emergency Communications is a 20-week applied certificate program offered at the Prince Albert Campus. This is a career field that requires unique training, which will enable a Communications Operator to serve the public and make a difference to someone in a crisis.

New Construction Management Degree at SK Polytech

The 2-year Bachelor of Construction Management (BCM) degree is aimed directly at graduates of Sask Polytech’s Architectural and Engineering Technology diploma programs. The BCM lets you add a degree to your career credentials in 2 years or 4 semesters. 

The Bachelor of Construction Management combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge and technical training in business administration and project management. It’s the only program of its kind in Saskatchewan.

The program started September 2018 at the Regina campus. The current class schedule allows students to learn while they learn. All classes are afternoon classes typically starting at 5:00 p.m. and students are able to connect remotely to classes. Fall 2019 seats are starting to fill up and are assigned on a first come first serve basis.

2019 Indigenous Stduent Awards Program

The RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Indigenous students to complete post-secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC® to strengthen its relationship with the Indigenous community. Selected students are awarded up to $4,000 each academic year for two to four years to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies and living expenses.

RBC awards ten scholarships in two categories:

• For students majoring in disciplines related to the financial services industry
• For students majoring in disciplines unrelated to the financial services industry

We also consider scholarship recipients who are interested in careers in financial services for summer and post-graduate employment.

Who Is Eligible?

You are eligible to apply to the RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program if you are a Status Indian*, a Non-status Indian, Inuit or Métis and meet these criteria:

• You are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada
• You have applied or are currently attending an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada
• You maintain a full course load that leads to a recognized degree, certificate or diploma
• You have at least two years remaining in post-secondary studies as of September 2019
• You require financial assistance to pursue your education

If you are already receiving partial funding from other sources, you may still apply to the RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program to cover additional educational and living expenses.

Heer Law Entrepreneurship Scholarship Criteria

In order to be eligible for the $2000 CAD scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Must be currently attending university or college or set to attend during the 2019-2020 academic year;
• Must be in good standing with their current or prospective institution;
• Must apply via email and provide their name, address, university or college, major and expected graduation month and year;
• Provide their application (a business plan for a current or prospective business which includes a section outlining intellectual property strategy) by December 31, 2019.
• Applications will be judged on the strength of the business idea and the cogency of the business plan and intellectual property strategy. A winner will be chosen by January 31, 2020.

Registration 101 Workshops

The U of A will be hosting Registration 101 Workshops across Western Canada and online to help students register for the University of Alberta. Workshop dates and locations, as well as registration tips, how-to videos, and more will be available soon at uab.ca/reg101.

Application Deadline

The application for admission deadline for most direct-entry programs is March 1. Students can apply at uab.ca/apply.

Eligible first-year applicants can apply for admission and residence using the same application form. Students who apply for residence by April 30 will be guaranteed on-campus housing.

University of Calgary Bioengineering Summer Institute

Are you a biology student who would make an excellent engineer? The Schulich School of Engineering is offering a new way to enter the University of Calgary engineering program for students who excel in Biology 30.

Starting this summer, they’re launching a pilot program to allow students with a passion for biology to enter engineering.  Applicants who apply to Engineering for fall 2019, will automatically be considered for this pilot program using Biology if admission with Physics is not granted.

Students admitted to Engineering with Biology will be part of a four-week Bioengineering Summer Institute course specifically designed to inspire engineering enthusiasts. It connects students’ strength in biology with biomedical engineering applications.  Through interactive and project based learning, students will be prepared with the necessary physics knowledge to succeed in engineering.

Biomedical engineers are transforming medicine by designing new adaptive technologies, improving diagnostic screening devices or helping find cures and treatments for major diseases. Strong students in biology and mathematics have traditionally been successful in engineering courses.

Science and Engineering Program for FNMI students in high school

Application deadline: February 15
The Verna J. Kirkness Science and Engineering Education Program addresses the under-representation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students at Canadian universities. One of the factors contributing to this is the lack of academic role models for these students.  The Foundation addresses this by offering scholarships to Indigenous grade 11 students to spend a week at a Canadian university interacting with scientists in their research laboratories. During their week on campus the students have the opportunity to meet role models, learn about the support systems that are available to them on campus and experience the excitement of doing research.
