Sid Bildfell Bursary

The Sid Bildfell Business Education Bursary provides $5,000 to a business student studying administration, commerce or finance in the province of Saskatchewan.

Sid Bildfell was the CEO at SaskCentral. He was a strong leader and believed in the importance of education and lifelong learning. This bursary was established to recognize Sid's 41 years of contribution, leadership and vision to SaskCentral, Saskatchewan credit unions and the co-operative system.

To apply for this bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Resident of Saskatchewan.
• Business student studying administration, commerce or finance at a post secondary institution in Saskatchewan.
• Involvement in a co-operative organization.
• Demonstrate a financial need.

• Completed application form .
• Confirmation of full-time enrollment at a university, community college or SIAST. A letter or email indicating you are enrolled in classes for September of the current year is recommended.

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Scholarships

Deadline: Friday, May 4 @ 4:30 pm

Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) has a scholarship program for undergraduate students. 

Each spring SPG awards five undergraduate scholarships to first-year students enrolled in the 

fall in a Saskatchewan-based post-secondary agriculture program. To be eligible for one of 

these scholarships the student or the student’s parent(s) must be an active pulse producer in 

Saskatchewan (i.e. he/she has sold a Saskatchewan-grown pulse crop in the last two crop 

years).

The 2018 undergraduate scholarship program is now accepting applications. For details on

Summer program: Future Global Leaders

The University of British Columbia offers high-school students aged 15 to 18 the opportunity to experience university life on our Vancouver campus in a two-week pre-university program called Future Global Leaders. There are three streams to choose from: Academic Courses, English Language Courses, and Pre-Varsity Sport.

The registration deadline for students who want to live on campus is April 30. The registration deadline for students who want to commute to campus is June 15.

Great Plains College is offering a Carpentry and Production Line Welding program out of our Rosetown Campus starting September 2018.

This dual-certificate program covers introductory skills in carpentry, production line welding, skills and safety training, and a host of other construction skills from electrical and plumbing to energy efficient construction; all of which will be brought together with a unique tiny home capstone project. Access Communications Scholarship

Last year, Access Communications launched their refreshed Scholarship Program, which grants scholarships of $1,000 to 20 Saskatchewan high school graduates each and every year. Not only do recipients have strong marks, they show a genuine passion for building their communities. Since launching the program, they've awarded more than $295,000.

Agriculture Student Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2018

Saskatchewan Grade 12 students and recent high school graduates (within the last two years) have the chance to win a grand prize scholarship valued at $4,000 or one of three runner-up scholarships of $2,000 when they submit a three-minute video or 1,000-word essay detailing their food story. This year’s scholarship theme, “Our Food Has a Story,” encourages youth to have conversations with others about the relationship between agriculture and the food they eat.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be planning to take an agriculture-related post-secondary education program beginning in the fall of 2018. This scholarship program has been designed to identify young people who thinkAG and plan to pursue an exciting career in the industry.

Deadline to apply is March 1, 2018.

U of Saskatchewan Indigenous Achievement Week

February 5 - 9. Everyone is welcome to attend all events. Join the U of S in celebrating the successes and contributions of Métis, First Nations and Inuit students, staff and faculty. Events focus on achievements in academics, research, education, community engagement and leadership. The week begins with a pipe ceremony and feast on Monday, February 5 and finishes with the ITEP Round Dance on Friday, February 9 in the Education Gymnasium. Throughout the week there will be artistic performances, speakers’ panels and lectures in various locations across campus. One of the highlights of the week is the Indigenous Student Achievement Awards Ceremony. This year, over 40 Indigenous students will be honoured for their academic, leadership and community outreach accomplishments. The awards ceremony will take place Thursday, February 8 in the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre.

Changes to Process for U of R Education Admissions

Admission on the spot opportunities
For the first time ever, high school students applying into the Faculty of Education could be admitted on the spot. At upcoming Admission on the Spot events (Prince Albert, Yorkton, and Regina), the Faculty of Education will be on hand to assess Teacher Education Application Profiles (TEAP). Students will need to complete the paper version of the TEAP in advance and bring it  to the event along with their early conditional transcript. If students have questions about completing the TEAP, they can email education@uregina.ca for assistance!

Students who have already submitted a TEAP don't need to worry. We will be working hard to complete their admission review prior to the Admission on the Spot events and will be in touch with them.

Win a Free Class!
High school students who complete their Faculty of Education application prior to the March 1 priority deadline will automatically be entered to win a free University of Regina class for Fall 2018. This includes students who have already submitted their applications.

Earlier assessment of applications
We have already seen some really great applications! Rather than waiting until March to break the news, the Faculty of Education will review completed applications as they are submitted. This means that qualified students will not need to wait and wonder - they will know sooner. This also means that we will use early conditional transcripts to calculate averages and do not need first semester grade 12 marks. This is in line with early conditional processes for all other faculties. This includes students applying to le Baccalauréat en éducation

Students who would like to wait and submit a transcript with first semester grades are still absolutely welcome to do so; as this will have no negative impact on their application. Grades and the Teacher Education Application Profile (extracurricular/volunteer activities and the short essay) will still be considered in the assessment of applications.

Students who already submitted an early conditional transcript can send us an updated transcript once their first semester grades are completed. This will prompt us to do a second admission average calculation to see if their average increases.

Greater flexibility and part time study options
Do you have students interested in education but concerned about attending full-time? That's okay! Students can take the number of courses that works best for their schedule and their life. This includes part-time study and accelerated completion options.

What about students in unique circumstances? For example, students who are upgrading and don't have enough classes for the early conditional calculation, but their grades are great, they'll have all final requirements, and you know they'd make a great teacher. Encourage them to apply and the Faculty of Education can review their application.

Indigenous Achievement Week: U of S

Indigenous Achievement Week is February 5 - 9. Everyone is welcome to attend all events.

This week is dedicated to celebrating the success and contributions of Métis, First Nations and Inuit students, staff and faculty to the university, Saskatoon and Saskatchewan as a whole through academic achievement, research, education, community engagement and leadership. 

Scholarship Deadlines: U of Saskatchewan

The deadline to apply for admission to be eligible to apply for Competitive Entrance Awards is February 15. March 1 is the deadline to submit the application for Competitive Entrance Awards and supporting documents required for specific awards. This includes transcripts and other supporting documents required for the application for admission. Competitive Entrance Awards include numerous scholarships and bursaries that can be accessed by students with diverse experiences. All entering students are encouraged to apply.

Upcoming Events at the U of R

Creative Technologies Open House February 6th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Students will discover how to match their creative talents, technical skills, and career goals by pursing this innovative program where they take courses in: Engineering Graphics, Animation, Intro to Computer Games, and Making Electronic Dance Music.

Faculty and staff will be at the Open House to demo gadgets (i.e., the voice looping machine), talk about course material, and discuss where the future is headed. Jaecy Bells, a fourth-year student, will also be there to talk about her experience in Creative Technologies. Jaecy is finishing the program with experience in photo & video editing, the Adobe suite, writing code, writing and performing music, and collaborating with other people’s complementary skills – a rich background suitable for working in today’s fast-paced environment with technology and creativity.

Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program – 4 Year Degree

Program Description

The Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) program is offered jointly with Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the University of Regina. As a SCBScN student, you will have the opportunity to access services and experience student life offered by both institutions.

As a student you will begin your nursing education in year one with opportunities to work directly with patients and clients.

When you graduate, you will receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree. 

Admission to the SCBScN program is based on a competitive entry process. The program is open for applications from October 1 to February 15 (online applications close at 11:59 pm Saskatchewan time; in person applications must be handed in by 4:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time on the stated deadline date) each academic year.

SK Polytech - Women in Trades Exploratory Course

This course is a series of hands-on, weekend workshops offering an introduction to a variety of basic trade skills.

Course Dates: February 10/11, February 24/25, March 10/11, March 24/25

Time: 9am-4pm

Cost: $300

 WELDING: Learn to assemble and tack weld steel, use assorted shaping methods, as well as, use cleaning, finishing, and cutting tools.

MACHINING: Learn to use tap and die, cutting, drilling, and grinding tools.

ELECTRICAL: Learn how to wire a light, a switch, and an electrical outlet.

PLUMBING: Learn how to solder, install a faucet and toilet, and basic furnace and hot water heater maintenance.

AUTOMOTIVE: Learn to perform a variety of vehicle checks, an oil and filter change, and a tire change.

AUTO BODY: Learn vehicle panel repair, preparation, and painting techniques.

CARPENTRY: Learn how to frame and erect a wall, install a door and window, and install sheathing.

Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada Inc. Annual $500 Post-Secondary Student Grant Application

Deadline: April 15

To be eligible, the student must be enrolled full-time at a Canadian university or college. Proof of enrollment from their university or college must accompany the application. The student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. A copy of the student’s most recent transcript must accompany the application. The student can be in any year of study in one of the agriculture and/or plant sciences programs at a recognized Canadian institution. 

Selection criteria will be based on 

• fulltime enrolment, extracurricular activities and an accompanying essay. 
• The one to two page essay topic will be on why the student feels that they should receive this grant from CSAAC.

The student’s past and current involvement in the agriculture industry including the family farm and/or seed testing is a benefit to the nominee for a successful application.

ThinkAg Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, 2018
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a Grade 12 student or recent high school graduate (within the past two years) in Saskatchewan, who is planning to take an agriculture-related post-secondary education program beginning in the fall of 2018. We are looking for young people who thinkAG and plan to pursue an exciting career in the industry. Note: Ministry of Agriculture and Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.

How to apply

Applicants must complete the application form and:

• produce a creative three-minute video or 1,000-word essay sharing their food story (criteria below);
• provide a letter of conditional acceptance to a post-secondary institution; and
• provide either a letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor, agriculture industry leader or community leader OR a resume with a cover letter outlining school and/or community involvement.

Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall $500 scholarships are awarded to grade 11 students to assist in finishing their grade 12 school year.They can be used for:books; school supplies; family expenses; and other expenses to meet your academic goals.

A selection committee will consider four student qualities:

• school and/or community-based leadership; 
• responsibilities outside of school;
• financial support needed; and
• academic performance.
