Do the Math 2011

The Canadian Mathematical Society, in partnership with the University of Toronto and Université Laval, is pleased to announce the 2011 Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC), taking place on Wednesday, November 2. The COMC is Canada’s premier national mathematics competition that is open to any student with an interest in mathematics. The competition is now in its 16th year. The COMC is designed to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics, and to develop analytical and problem solving skills that will be essential to their future careers. This year there will be an expanded awards program, a new prize program, and a three section exam format encompassing regular, intermediate and advanced problems. The COMC is the main qualifier for the Sun Life Financial Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). Top scoring students will receive an invitation to write the CMO, an advanced competition written only by expressly invited students. Registration In order for students to write the COMC, their school must register for the competition. Registration is now open through the Canadian Mathematical Society website: More information about the COMC is also available at this site, including a list of study topics for students, past competition papers, and information on awards and prizes.
