Saskatchewan School Boards Association Scholarships

 

Each year, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association awards two $2,500 scholarships to graduating Saskatchewan high school students going into post-secondary study:

Degree Program Scholarship: $2,500

Technical/Trade Program Scholarship: $2,500

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated good character, community leadership, financial need, and a 500-word essay. The application deadline is Aug. 31 each year. To access the application form and view the rubric that is being used to score the scholarships, visit:

Lloydminster Society of Petroleum Engineers Scholarship 2021

Deadline: September 3, 2021

The Society of Petroleum Engineers – Lloydminster Section, are making the following awards available to students from a high school in Lloydminster and the surrounding areas. The Lloydminster Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers donates these awards to worthy candidates to recognize graduating high school students:

·        Personal development

·        Academic Achievement

·        Contribution to school and community

The scholarships are intended to financially assist students who will be continuing their education in a post-secondary institute and who are majoring in SCIENCE or ENGINEERING with relationship to the petroleum industry. The applicant must be in full time attendance and a member of the current year’s graduating class. At the time of awarding the scholarship the applicant must be enrolled full time in a post-secondary program of studies at a university, college or technical school.

Usask Engineering Partnership Upda

 

St. Peter's College and the University of Saskatchewan's College of Engineering are continuing to grow their partnership. Information about the University of Saskatchewan's renewed engineering program, as well as the partnership with St. Peter's College follows: What is 'Re-Engineered'? USASK has rebuilt their first year so that students can gain the skills & knowledge they need for their degree and career as a licensed professional engineer. The changes include: A re-designed timetable to support learning and school/life balance. Classes becoming broader and more relevant to real-world engineering. NO final exams - you'll be graded on your competency and skills, not how well you can memorize large amounts of material. Another change is that the admission average required is a 75% average - raised from the previous average of 70%. The one exception to this will students interested in studying at St. Peter's College, who can still be admitted so long as they meet the 70% average. What does the partnership between St. Peter's College and Usask mean? St. Peter's College and the College of Engineering's partnership means that students can still continue to select St. Peter's College as their campus for first-year engineering, taking advantage of benefits from both institutions as they always have. It also means that students who fall below the new admission average of 75% can still begin their first year of USASK engineering exclusively at St. Peter's College, so long as they have met the original 70% admission average. The College has a long history of supporting first-year students, and especially engineers, who benefit and excel from the small class sizes, additional scholarships, and supportive environment they develop with their fellow students and professors. It's no wonder why, in the last four years, 50% of continuing Engineering students at St. Peter's College have made the Dean's List at the University of Saskatchewan. Do you want more information? Paddy O'Rourke Poetry Scholarship

IBAS Young Community Leader Bursary

 The Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS), has now opened the ‘IBAS Young Community Leader Bursary’ application process for grade 12 students entering post secondary education.  They have just finalized all of the details surrounding it, included is an increased bursary amount this year of $5000 - and have an application deadline of May 31^st.

Illumination Conference

 

The Illumination Conference has been a long-standing tradition at the University of Saskatchewan. This year we are shifting the focus to start a conversation about inclusion in Engineering.

The conference is focused on providing high school and university-aged students an opportunity to learn about the first-hand experiences from Engineers from minority groups. Rosanah Santos, a Professional Engineer will be speaking about her career path and experiences as a woman in engineering. David Michealson will speak about his journey through the engineering industry,  academia, and experiences as a professor and as an Indigenous person in Engineering. We hope that these perspectives from inspirational speakers might spark an interest in Engineering for students who may not have considered this profession before.

These presentations will be followed by technical speakers provided by The University of Saskatchewan Nanotechnology Student Council, and a presenter provided by the Power and Energy Systems IEEE Student Chapter for any students interested in learning more about the many career opportunities within engineering.

March and April are packed with exciting virtual events that will give students and parents the unique opportunity to connect with USask staff and current students, and learn about their admission processes and programs. Using innovative SparkPath “challenge cards,” students (grades 10-12) will receive a unique report about careers and industries they are interested in and will learn about the wide range of USask degrees that will help them solve global challenges and become what the world needs. Annual First Nations Uniersity Career Fair - March 3/4

This is your invitation to the annual First Nations University of Canada Career Fair. Local and national businesses and organizations will be available to engage with students about potential career options. FNUniv Student Success Services presentations will be built into the schedule for participants to learn about career planning, FNUniv registration and student supports. 

This year, the FNUniv Career Fair will be virtual via Zoom and held over the course of 4 afternoons (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) on March 3^rd &  4^th, 2021.

Conexus Yout Leadership Award

 

Deadline April 16 - Apply for the 2021 Youth Leadership Award

We’re turning to our schools and our communities to help us recognize and celebrate young leaders. Those who are helping to improve the wellbeing of our communities.

The Conexus Youth Leadership Award recognizes graduating high school students across Saskatchewan who show leadership in everything they do. They try to make their corner of the world a better place and make a difference in their communities.

 

Conexus will award ten grade 12 students across Saskatchewan with $1,500 and recognize them through our social media channels. Each winner will receive a $500 cash prize and $1,000 deposited into a Conexus term account, which can be withdrawn after one year, starting June 1, 2021.

Access Communications Doug Alexander Scholarship Program

As a 100% Saskatchewan-owned, not-for-profit co-operative, Access Communications is committed to giving back to our communities. We believe making the world a better place starts with supporting our future leaders and community champions.

Every year, the Access Communications Doug Alexander Scholarship Program awards $1,000 to 20 high school graduates from across Saskatchewan. Our scholarship recipients don’t just exhibit academic excellence – they demonstrate a genuine passion for volunteerism, giving their time to improve their communities.

If you know a student with a record of volunteerism, participation in extra-curricular school activities, leadership skills, and academic achievement, please encourage them to apply for our scholarship program. We have included a program poster with this letter, which you can hang in your school or distribute to graduating students.

Our application form, which includes full details and eligibility criteria, is available at myaccess.ca/scholarships. The submission deadline is Friday, April 16, 2021. 

Virtual Admission Events from the University of Saskatchewan

 

The university of Saskatchewan will be holding a series of virtual events to  give students and parents the opportunity to connect with USask recruiters, and learn about admission processes and programs. In addition to hosting presentations and Q&As, they will be hosting two USask Express application workshops in February where students can learn how to fill out applications for admission to USask, helping to make the process easy and stress-free. One hosted by USask's Indigenous Student Liaison Officer takes place on Mon. Feb. 1 for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, and the second is next Thurs. Not all awards will apply to all students. To get a list customized to them and weekly email reminders of deadlines, they should create a profile on ScholarTree.
