SIAST High Demand Programs
February 15 Deadline: A small number of SIAST programs have been designated as high-demand. A high-demand program is generally one that consistently has 2.5 times more applicants than spaces available at each SIAST location at which it is offered.
High-demand programs have admission requirements plus additional selection criteria. For these programs, you must apply each academic year between October 1 and February 15.
A review is conducted each fall to determine which programs will be designated high-demand for the following academic year. Currently the list of high-demand courses includes:

February 15 - To be eligible for competitive entrance awards, grade 12 students must complete both an application for admission to the University of Saskatchewan, as well as an application for Competitive Entrance awards. November 12 - Maclean's Magazine will be hosting their annual virtual career fair. This will allow students to visit college and university campuses throughout the country. Each year 40 students are selected from high schools across Canada to come to Ottawa and work as pages in the House of Commons. New Faculty of Nursing, U of R
Through a partnership with SIAST, the U of R will be offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree that will have its first intake of students for Fall 2011. Thus, current grade 11's will be able to apply into the program.

Starting in the fall of 2010, any student who enrols at the U of Regina and actively participates in the UR Guarantee program will be guaranteed a job within six months of their graduation. Katimavik: Get a Life
Katimavik is open to all young Canadians between the ages of 17 and 21 and is all expenses paid. This six or nine month program gives participants the opportunity to volunteer in community development initiatives across the country and develop valuable employment skills in the areas of civic engagement, leadership, healthy lifestyle, cultural discovery, official languages, communications, environmental stewardship,and project coordination.
This program may be of particular interest to students who are interested in a "gap year" between high school and post-secondary studies.

This competition targets those students who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents who will be ready to begin university study in September of 2010.
The 2010 University of Toronto National Scholarship will cover tuition and incidental fees for four years of undergraduate student, will provide residence support in the first year and will include an additional, renewable monetary award. While the selection of National Scholars will continue to be based on exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievement, the annual value of each student's scholarship will be determined on the basis of individual financial circumstances.

U of S - Aboriginal Business Adminstration Certificate
This is a two-year direct entry program for self-identified Aboriginal students which is designed to provide programming for those Aboriginal students who do not meet the admission criteria for direct admission or transfer admission to the undergraduate program and for those Aboriginal students who wish to obtain a certificate in business but do not want to study a four year degree program. Upon successful completion, students may choose to apply to the BCOMM degree program during the regular application period. Students in good standing who have met ABAC program standards will be automatically admitted to the BCOMM degree program.

Rodeo - Bill Kehler Memorial Awards
Deadline August 28 - The Edmonton Rodeo Cowboy's Benevolent Fund and Northlands offer the Bill Kehler Memorial Awards. This scholarship will provide students from eligible high schools with one of 40 Youth Apprenticeship Scholarships valued at $1000 to be awarded in June.
To be eligible, the school and the student must participate in the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Program. The student must hold a completed youth apprenticeship passpot and within two years of high school completion, be entered into a contract of apprenticeship for one year or have completed one year of post secondary training in a designated skilled trade.

Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship

RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarships honour the achievements of senior students across Canada, and
help pay for post-secondary and/or post-CEGEP education. This year, ten scholarships will be presented to
students entering their first year of full-time study in college or university (and/or CEGEP in Quebec). Each
scholarship has a value of $2,009. The awards will be distributed with appropriate regard to region, population,
gender, and language.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The $2,009 will be allocated in Year One of the student's program.
Applicants must be graduating from the final year of high school (and/or CEGEP in Quebec), and have a minimum
grade average of 65 per cent. Students must also be registered/accepted at a college or university in Canada for the
2009 Fall/Winter session.
In order to qualify for the scholarship students must send in a completed application form with supporting
documentation. Original materials will not be returned. The application deadline is May 8, 2009.
Once students are accepted at the institution of their choice, they must supply us with a copy of their letter of
acceptance. Applications will not be processed without this document.
The selection of the winners is determined by a committee of High school, university and college representatives
with expertise in admissions and evaluations. Selection is based on the points outlined under ELIGIBILITY.
All applicants must authorize the release of any information relating to their application to the RBC Royal Bank
Financial Lifeskills Scholarship Program. Information may be requested from high school, college, university,
government, or community sources, and may include personal evaluations and transcripts. The information
resulting from such a request may be used for the scholarship program publicity or promotion purposes.

RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarships honour the achievements of senior students across Canada, and
help pay for post-secondary and/or post-CEGEP education. This year, ten scholarships will be presented to
students entering their first year of full-time study in college or university (and/or CEGEP in Quebec). Each
scholarship has a value of $2,009. The awards will be distributed with appropriate regard to region, population,
gender, and language.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The $2,009 will be allocated in Year One of the student's program.
Applicants must be graduating from the final year of high school (and/or CEGEP in Quebec), and have a minimum
grade average of 65 per cent. Students must also be registered/accepted at a college or university in Canada for the
2009 Fall/Winter session.
In order to qualify for the scholarship students must send in a completed application form with supporting
documentation. Original materials will not be returned. The application deadline is May 8, 2009.
Once students are accepted at the institution of their choice, they must supply us with a copy of their letter of
acceptance. Applications will not be processed without this document.
The selection of the winners is determined by a committee of High school, university and college representatives
with expertise in admissions and evaluations. Selection is based on the points outlined under ELIGIBILITY.
All applicants must authorize the release of any information relating to their application to the RBC Royal Bank
Financial Lifeskills Scholarship Program. Information may be requested from high school, college, university,
government, or community sources, and may include personal evaluations and transcripts. The information
resulting from such a request may be used for the scholarship program publicity or promotion purposes.

Legion Scholarships and Bursaries
Deadline August 28 - Saskatchewan Command, in cooperation with the Dominion Command of The Royal Canadian Legion are offering 10 scholarships of $300 each. In addition, Saskatchewan Command is offering 10 bursaries of $300 each.
These are offered to students who have completed grade 12 and are continuing their education in their first year at university, technical school (2 year course) or Business College (complete business course).
These scholarships are available to the sons/daughters, grandsons/grandaughters and great grandsons/daughters of Veterans, Ex-Service or still serving Military or R.C.M.P. personnel.

Deadline August 31 - Each year the Saskatchewan School Boards Association awards two $1000 scholarships to graduating high school students who remain in Saskatchewan in post-secondary study.

Ten Days that could change Your Life
Lieutenant Governor's Leadership Forum - Deadline May 1, 2009.
This forum brings together 18 Saskatchewan youth in grades 11 and 12 who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in their schools and communities. From October 12-23, 2009, these students will travel the province, meet successful people from various sectors and take part in a variety of experiences designed to strengthen the mind, body and their leadership potential.
Upon completing the program, they will receive a 30 level Special Project Credit toward their high school graduation requirements and a certificate of participation in the physical activity/fitness component.
Selection criteria will include: leadership in school activities, leadership in the community, academic achievement, an essay outlining leadership experiences, as well as prior accomplishments, recognition, awards, honours and scholarships.

Les Donnelly Scholarship
May 31 Deadline - The Les Donnelly Occupational Safety Scholarhsip is an annual scholarship up to a maximum of $2000. The recipient of the scholarship must be a Saskatchewan resident who is taking a college or university level safety program. University of Alberta Rural Discovery Day
The Office of the Registrar and Student Awards at the University of Alberta will be hosting its bi-annual Rural Discovery Day at the North Campus in Edmonton on Friday, March 20, 2009. Our Discovery Day participants will have the chance to:

• Discuss university life with current undergraduate students from other rural areas

• Have a tour of the Lister Centre Residence and U of A North Campus

Concordia University College of Alberta now offers an after degree program in Environmental Health, the practice of protecting people from environmental factors or protecting the ecological balances essential for human health.
